Unbalanced Disappointment September 25, 2008 K. Hunter I bought this beater because my last B&D worked like a charm for many years; but, this one is a big disappointment. What you can't see from this photo is that it is a difficult beater to hold. The controls are right over where you want to hold the beater so I find myself holding the beater over the controls. This is uncomfortable and unsturdy. It is heavily weighted to the front section of the blender so although the section for your hand is behind the controls, it feels unnatural to hold the beater at the lightest section of the beater. Notice how other beaters have the controls on the 45 degree -between the front of the blender and the top where the hand is placed-. This one has the controls right on top where the hand needs to go. The other gripe, those round beaters. I had to beat my potatoes into oblivion (and therefore they were really rubbery) before they were blended. I think my old flat bladed beaters were much quicker at beating. I am going to replace this beater with a flat bladed one.
TOO FAST - Everything goes flying August 25, 2008 P. Cook (Sunny, Florida) I guess this is a "good" mixer but not for me. It starts out superfast and there is no slowing it down. Everthing goes flying all over the place. I use it mostly for mashed potatoes and the potatoes are all over the counter. I am looking to replace it with something that works better for me.
Cooksillustrated recomended August 4, 2008 Abhilasha Choudhri (CA) I bought this since cooks illustrated had recommended this product, It works well I love the various attachments. If you don't own a hand blender (Immersion) get this otherwise think of buying an immersion blender with all the attachments . I cook for 2 people and think it prudent to save space.
Durable but Too Much Power? May 29, 2008 MadPsych (Ohio) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We purchased this inexpensive mixer to replace one that had a beater go bad. It seems very durable and gets the job done. It comes with two sets of beaters--neither typical of most mixers, but nice to have the "whisk" beaters. As a few others have noted, it doesn't seem to have a "low" setting... it starts out fast and just keeps getting faster. Ironically, it has a "speed boost" button--a "speed unboost" button would have been more useful.
Black & Deckers - Ups and Downs May 2, 2008 WhizKid21 (NYC) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a solid mixer that will get the job done. It comes with whisks and beaters, which I think is great. I use the whisks for scrambled eggs, and they come extra fluffy. My gripes is that there really is no "low" speed on here. Even on the lowest setting, it sounds like a corvette is going to roll through my mixing bowl. Also, the plastic spatula is a nice thought, but no substitute for a real spatula. It kinda helps if you're doing cake batter, or something equally thick, but don't buy this one just because it comes with a gimmick.
