Build of FAIL October 3, 2008 B. Hubbard (Detroit, MI USA) Bought this at a store, where I didn't have the reviews to warn me. Oops! Lasted about 20 uses, then the plastic gear at the bottom of the glass that connects to the blade stripped while making a smoothie. The replacement part was about $20 with shipping, so forget it - time to buy a real blender.
Lasted a year and a half... August 31, 2008 Tennis5 I purchased this blender to make protein smoothies. Worked great for about 6 months, and then sometimes out of the blue, if I left it plugged in it would start running by itself in the middle of the night...very weird. So I just started unplugging it every time I after I used it. Then, after a year and a half, similar to other reviewers, it got a funny smell one day and just quit on me. In my opinion, a year and a half isnt long enough for a $40-50 blender to last...heck, I have had $25 blenders that lasted me 3-4 years before!
Low Reliability and Poor Workmanship August 17, 2008 R. C. GARRETT (Saint Paul, MN) We owned this blender for about 3 years and only got to use it about 6 times before it broke down completely. I contacted Black and Decker and was disappointed when they told me that the blender was no longer covered under warranty and that I would have to purchase a new one. They also had to do a recall as the blender blades were breaking off during regular use. If you have the opportunity, I highly suggest avoiding this product. I was truly disappointed by Black and Decker's response (since the blender was clearly either defective or very poorly manufactured) and the product itself is unreliable. Save the trouble and buy a quality product that will work consistently and last for several years.
DO NOT BUY THIS BLENDER!! It Blew up on me with Smoke! July 9, 2008 Pswrite (cambridge, ma United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I read the reviews after buying this blender and I was a bit wary but I decided I would give it a try. I had it for less than 3 weeks and used it for only 2 as I was away. I tried (note the word "tried") to make a shake yesterday morning containing only berries, a banana and soymilk. I turned it on and turned away for a second to get my glass when I smelled this awful rubber smell. I turned back to the blender to see large puffs of smoke and the engine seemingly grinding into itself before my eyes. I quickly unplugged the blender and when I picked up the glass jar - all these metal pieces came flying at me and the little rubber stopper flew out and fell atop my kitchen counter all charred. I had to throw out my shake and at the bottom of it the blade had completely fallen off. This was not a big job for this machine. What a disaster. I went out and bought an Oster 10-speed blender today in a hurry to replace this one and although it was very inexpensive and had only a plastic jar, it blended my shake this evening with NO PROBLEMS. My review - Don't buy the Black and Decker BL900 blender - if I could have given it 0 stars I would have.
I guess I got lucky June 24, 2008 P. Palmer (Los Angeles CA) After reading all the terrible reviews, I guess I was lucky and bought the new, improved model. I've had it for a year and use it maybe twice a week for smoothies. However, I bash the ice cubes before adding them. Otherwise, you're asking for trouble. My problem now is that the plastic screw on bottom, where the blade and rubber ring sit, cracked. If I can find a replacement part, it would be great. I'd hate to have to toss the whole blender out because of a cheap part.
