Tiny, but Tough A sleek design and a sharp display combine to make the TomTom ONE a vital companion on the road. THe ONE, 3rd edition comes pre-loaded with complete maps for the United States and Canada. Plus, with an operating temperature range of an icy -10 degrees to a sweltering 55 degrees Celsius (14 to 131 degrees Fahrenheit), the navigator is durable enough for New England winters or Arizona summers. The TomTom ONE is powered by an internal lithium ion battery that can be charged from your vehicle's cigarette lighter with the included 12-24V adapter. Easy To Use The user-friendly design also puts it a step above other navigation systems. The crystal-clear multicolor display makes for exceptionally easy viewing of maps, routes, driving directions, and other traveling information, such as mileage and distance. Measuring 3.5 inches, the TFT display offers a resolution of 320 x 240 to provide brilliant two- and three-dimensional graphics. ONE will also provide a selection of available routes, giving you the option of avoiding toll roads or choosing between the quickest or the most scenic routes. The database includes zip codes to simplify your route selection, and for extra convenience, the TomTom ONE lets you save the addresses of frequent destinations, making route planning easier and faster than ever. Other display features include a compass mode to assist you with directional orientation, and an anti-glare screen for optimal viewing even in direct sunlight. Do not do business with this company July 19, 2008 J. Whiteside (NJ United States) Do not do business with this company. I just bought this product and have had nothing but trouble with map updates and their technical support department. Their solution to everything is try and sell you upgrades and then you discover you have to purchase hardware updates to use the upgrades. They are the most disreputable company I have ever dealt with and have a total lack of customer service mentality. Be warned that these units come with very outdated maps.
TomTom One 3rd July 18, 2008 dufferron (AL USA) Received it in good time and I have used it a few times. Works fine for me.
TomTom 3rd edition July 18, 2008 Kenneth D. Wray (Memphis, Tn) Excellent service, fast shipping. The TomTom one 3rd edition is a great little gps system. The only problem I have is after the first initial map upgrade, subsequent upgrades are charged and this is not really explained before purchase. I'll probably sell this one instead of upgrading in a year or so as the new system won't cost much more than the upgrade. Other than that, works as expected.
It's ok so far July 17, 2008 Ming Z. Chen I've had it for a day, with the price I paid, I am very pleased with the unit so far. I am yet to try it with a longer trip to see how well it does the job. So far, on local roads, the device seems to suggest routes that are somewhat counter-intuitive. In one instance, it directs me to my school in the opposite direction. I had to make a left to enter the campus, while it directed me to turn right, and stop in the middle of a major local road. It seems that it does not locate the address well, it made the destination a little off. I typed the address on Google maps and Mapquest, both locate the address more accurately than this GPS. But it's strange, because, it seems that Mapquest shares the same map that TomTom has. I ordered two of these, one for my friend, another one for myself. I compared the two. one seems to pick up the signal faster most of the time, and with more satellites captured. the other one seems to be much louder when turned to the loudest volume. They are the exact same units, i do not know why they would perform differently. weird. I guess every gps is different even for the same brand and model. I am primarily using this device when I travel to new places I never been to, for familiar places, i'd prefer not to use it. More reviews later.
Not reliable July 17, 2008 Marks (New York, NY United States) Quite often this GPS gives you not an optimal direction, then when you pursue a different way the device is trying to reposition itself and confuses you. Also, the voice directions do not call the streets names which is inconvenient.
