Amazon.com Review
A floating hinge and two sets of cooking plates turn this multifunctional unit into a contact grill, panini press, large open grill, or griddle. Made of brushed stainless steel, this four-in-one, space-saving appliance offers cooking options that range from pancakes, sausages, and grilled cheese to fish, hamburgers, and panini. Its floating hinge adjusts to the thickness of food, while adjustable temperature controls ensure food is cooked properly. The unit features a sturdy panini-style handle and convenient indicator lights, as well as nonstick grill and griddle plates that are removable, dishwasher-safe, and designed to drain grease away from food for healthier cooking. Two dishwasher-safe drip cups to collect grease are included, plus a dishwasher-safe scraping tool for easy cleanup. The unit measures 13 by 11-1/4 by 6-1/2 inches and carries a limited three-year warranty. --Catie Unger

4 out of 5 stars Cuisinart GR-4 Griddler...A-   November 11, 2008

I had been wanting one of these griddlers for awhile and was pleased to find it at a great price. Shipping was fast, product was well packed. I couldn't find this product any cheaper. I've already used it to make pannini's and grilled cheese. It's great!

2 out of 5 stars Good idea, poor execution   October 28, 2008

I needed a griddle, and this seemed like a great idea -- an appliance that does double duty, creates a nifty panini in addition to pancakes, good manufacturer(?) -- a slam dunk, right? Wrong.

This has been a disappointment, mainly because of poor heating. You never know what temperature surface you will get. If set to 350, it may eventually reach it, but put cool batter on it, and it may take 10 minutes to get back up to temperature. And turn the heat up, to 450, say? Next time, they'll burn in 2 minutes flat.

I received a replacement from Cuisinart, and the new unit seemed to heat a little more evenly, but I think it was mostly wishful thinking. AND, the new unit doesn't stay level when in an open position -- it tilts when a spatula presses on it. Now my warranty has expired, so it's just taking up space for the occasional sandwich.

So if you're looking for something that will grill a hamburger like a George Foreman grill, get a GF grill. It will most likely do a better job than this unit. And for pancakes, get a real griddle. That's what I'm gonna do.

5 out of 5 stars So far so good.   October 3, 2008

This has been a great product and so far no problems with it. We use it in our RV and I have no complaints about it at all. It can fit open on our table so we can cook or keep things warm on it as we eat. When open it is an even surface and has been very good cooking both as an open griddle and closed like a griller. The plates snap off and on easily - very nice! Just make sure to put the top plates on the top (as marked) and the bottoms on the bottom. We have had good success with steaks, burgers, bacon, waffles being cooked on it so far. It has been a one of the best cooking utensils that has been added to our camping trips to date.

We have owned this appliance for about two years now. It has performed well and I feel it does it well. We have always hand washed the plates and there is no degradation of the non-stick material at all. I even took it to work for a month and least ten different people used it daily without issue. My only complaint is the printing on the controls. We cooked turkey burgers right after buying it and the grease erased the lettering. If this unit failed now, I would buy another.
