2 out of 5 stars Highly Overrated   August 22, 2008

First of all, don't be fooled by its appearance: This is not a Thermos. It will not keep your food warm or cold. For this reason, the instructions say to avoid using it for dairy products, and to consume food withing a few hours.

Second, and perhaps most important, all of the bowls leak. Even the soup bowl, with a screw-on lid and gasket, leaks. The instructions say to always keep Mr. Bento perfectly upright. Try doing that in your car on your commute to work. It's impossible.

In practice, the only thing Mr. Bento is good for arranging your food in pretty ways, so that you can post photos on Flickr. That's not very practical when your yogurt is spoiled not to mention spilled all over the inside of the container. I've since gone back to using a couple of $1 food containers, which at least don't leak. Also, when I put them in the fridge at work, my coworkers don't constantly ask me why I'm taking up valuable fridge space with a Thermos.

5 out of 5 stars I would marry mr. bento <3   August 11, 2008

I really like Mr. Bento. Yes it takes a little bit of effort to make sure its clean but its a great way to be creative with your lunches and it holds a good amount of food. Since I have started my new job in the hospital, good healthy food fast(believe it or not) is hard to come by. When you are taking care of patients, you don't have time to go down and get your lunch. Mr. Bento saves the day by allowing me to pack what i want and I can eat my lunch without fear of it spoiling. It also allows me to eat multiple small meals during the day which is important for me since I do not have a scheduled lunch hour. The little containers make it easy for me to pack a snack, an appetizer, and main course. Many of my co-workers loved my mr. bento when they first saw it because of its clever design and have in turn purchased their own. I have turned my workplace into a Mr. Bento paradise! Mr. Bento has saved me so much money and unnecessary calories by letting me pack a lunch that is healthy, well rounded and delicious because I cooked it myself. If you have motivation and are organized- GET THE BENTO. =)

It came as promised and although the box was a bit worn by the time it got to me, it was still pretty good.

5 out of 5 stars I love Mr. Bento!   July 16, 2008

I have had Mr. Bento for three weeks now and I can honestly say the novelty has not worn off. Even though the containers look small I have more than enough food for lunch and sometimes even a snack. My typical bento lunch consists of a meat in the smaller insulated bowl, salad in the larger insulated one, and a variety of crackers, fruit, pudding, raw veggies, hummus, etc. in the two non-insulated bowls. (I find the non-insulated bowls say cool as well if I don't open the bento until lunchtime) I also pack my lunch at night and stick it in the fridge until I leave the next morning so that may help. I have no experience with heat retention yet..it is summer and am enjoying cold food.

My bento came with a spork. I think it is pretty useless so I don't use it. Instead, I just take a regular fork, spoon, and knife from home. I also pack a cloth napkin, it just makes lunch a little more special. :-)

I have used the carrying case that came with Mr. Bento but I tend to use a small soft-sided cooler I have more often. I just slip the bento in the cooler along with a bottle of water, my cutlery, napkin, (and my breakfast yogurt if I am running late) and head to work.

My co-workers all comment on how cool the Mr. Bento is and they are envious of the variety of foods I bring for lunch.

I am thrilled with my purchase and know I will enjoy Mr. Bento for years to come.

If you want to see some cool pics of Mr. Bento in action..check out the Mr. Bento Porn group on Flickr (just google it). Lots of fun!
