Flavorful and incredibly easy September 19, 2008 R. Dillon Very easy to bake. Produces a very flavorful dense loaf (that's the grain). You don't need a machine, I bake in the oven and get consistently great results with this product.
Excellent, Hearty Bread September 14, 2008 D. Liepins (Rapid City, SD USA) For those of you who love a nice, hearty whole grain bread, I very much recommend Hodgson Mill's 9-Grain Bread Mix. It is a very chewy and filling bread that is great for sandwiches. The blend of nine whole grains come together to make complex tastes and textures that are rich and satisfying. Instructions for both bread machine and oven baked bread are included on the back of the box.
Yum! July 14, 2008 Soapy (PA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I don't do many reviews so when a product inspires me enough to write one, you know it has to be good. This mix is over $3.50 a box in the only store in my area that carries it. This price for 6 boxes at Amazon is a steal! And the bread is absolutely excellent. The review saying it is too sweet is crazy...I actually add an extra tablespoon or two of honey for fun.
Great flavor, high rising loaf July 12, 2008 W. Timm (Bolingbrook, IL USA) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is one of the better bread machine mixes out there. Hodgson Mill has managed to provide us with some very fine products that don't contain a bunch of preservatives and great tasting loaves of bread. They are one of the only ones that recommend using the whole wheat cycle for a box mix, and it works well. This may be the reason that some reviewer wound up with a bad loaf. Funny thing is, the first time I used it, I neglected to read the instructions and used the basic white setting on my bread machine and it still turned out pretty good. I'll be ordering this mix on a regular basis.
Yeast packet bad/inactive, bread uninspiring. May 31, 2008 Auliya (Austin, TX USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Must have been bad luck. The yeast packet was bad/inactive. The bread did not bake correctly. It was just a partially stirred mess at the bottom of the baking pan in the bread machine. (I've seen this happen before. I don't think I can blame Hodgson Mill. Please comment if you know more about this phenomenon?) I tasted some of the quasi-baked bread and could tell that it would have been generally a good loaf - not a great bread, but decent.
