best toaster yet August 13, 2008 Charles Heywood Over the years, I have discarded too many toasters to remember. Most of the popular brand-name toasters available are mediocre to poor in their performance. The biggest problems have been too little power and uneven toasting. My new Breville (3 months) is a big improvement over my past toasters in both respects. In addition, features such as "lift and look," "a bit more," and the bagel option (also works great on English muffins) are handy and really work. I am very difficult to please when it comes to kitchen appliances, and so far I have been extremely pleased by this toaster. Breville BTA820XL Die-Cast 2-Slice Smart Toaster
Excellent simple and recommend to all July 29, 2008 L. Mccann We have always had a breville toaster and when we moved to the US and had to buy all new apliances we looked around and ended up with another breville, the new functions are all great and looks great on the bench the kids think the buttons are cool and the lit up timer. Worth paying the bit extra for how often you use it.
A Good Idea Poorly Executed... July 28, 2008 M. Smith (Fairfax, VA USA) A toaster, particularly a $129 toaster, should be expected to do one thing well - toast a piece of bread evenly! This Very Expensive toaster browned both pieces of bread much darker on the sides facing outward while the sides facing the center were lighter, and there's no "feature" fix for this. Also, this toaster does take about three times as long as my previous Sunbeam two-slice model did and much longer than most of today's less expensive toasters do that have heating elements that actually glow red hot - these nichrome ribbon elements are completely dim except for an occasional hot spot here or there. You should be advised that the toaster uses a three prong (grounded) plug, some older 1950's-60's kitchens may not have the proper/required outlet. And the end-of-toasting chime is so weak as to be inaudible from only three feet away. Maybe I just received a lemon (or other reviewers have yet to get past the initial "Wow" factor), but if you read other Breville model reviews it would appear that this uneven browning is an ongoing issue with most - if not all - of the Breville line of toasters. What A Shame - to get so close to perfection and then... quit! Makes you wonder... does anybody at Breville corporate headquarters actually test/use their products? What happened to QC??? So impress your friends (and perhaps yourself?) with all the bells and whistles, but the entertainment value will surely decline with time, you'll grow tired of the long wait for toast as your carpool buddies lay on the horn outside, and you'll still be left with unevenly toasted bread.
Wow!! July 11, 2008 StevieO (DC) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I always thought a toaster was just a toaster & I have owned dozens of toasters & used many others over the years. But, this thing rocks. It is an amazingly well thought out piece of machinery. It is so simple to use & works like a charm. Instructions not required. Leave it to the Aussies for design ingenuity & functionality. I highly recommend this for a two slice pop up toaster. (There is a four slice model as well.) Great features. This is well worth the price & has better features, functionality & quality, imo, than other far more expensive chi chi toasters from yesteryear that are still on the market or any other toasters I have ever used. I never would have thought that there could actually be a cool factor to a common toaster. Rock on Breville! Superb product.
Great toaster that leaves no feature behind July 5, 2008 Bryan M. Reichmuth (Omaha, NE) We love this toaster. We never have to worry about getting our toast or bagels done right. It looks great in our kitchen with the rest of our ss appliances. Also love the little bit more and smart chip technology. There simply is no other toaster that offers this many feature and benefits.
