Grind coffee with the ease and accuracy of a professional with this coffee grinder by La Pavoni. The bean chamber conveniently holds 4 ounces of coffee (enough for 18 cups) so you won't need to keep refilling it when brewing for a large group. The fineness selector on the left side of the unit has 19--count 'em, 19--settings, from coarse to extra fine. And ground size does matter, as this accurate grinder will soon teach you: use coarse grounds for your French press, medium for your drip machine, and fine for espresso. Happily, this precision machine doesn't leave much room for human error. Set the amount of coffee you are going to grind for the number of cups desired, and an automatic portion timer will hold you to the proper grind time, switching itself off when finished.  Good grinder, short life, and messy July 24, 2008

It took a little while to find the right setting and always produced quite a bit of supper fine grindings. It also got hung up on beans every now and then, but otherwise worked quite well if you open it over the sink and consider that it was only $25. My biggest problem was that it only lasted about 6 months. It gets hung up and only has an on switch, so you have to unplug it as soon as it gets hung up or it will burn out in less than 6 months.

Grinds at many settings and makes terrific coffee with the proper settings.
While grinding, residue, etc. flies out of the top and has to be cleaned off the counter after using.
It's easy to use and grinds terrific coffee. I have it on top of a large plastic plate that I have to clean periodically, as bits and pieces fly through the grinder and out the sides of the plastic reservoir. A minor inconvience, but is annoying to the little woman.

OK so this does grind beans, but the port for the ground coffee allows the grounds to leak out the sides and bottom of the clear plastic chamber. This seems like no big, but it does mean you will be wiping up coffee dust every time! Coffee everywhere! All they had to do is make the port extend further into the chamber. As is, it will grind beans (forget the 19 settings, you will always want it at 19). And the coffee will taste fine, but know that you will have cleanup after each pot. Static is a problem too. I still recommend this over the old propeller grinders.

I'm very happy to have bought this burr coffee grinder. It fits well on the counter and grinds the beans with consistent results. I store my beans in the freezer and tablespoon in the right amount for the day's grind (about 1/4 cup) using a fine/coarse setting of 5 and a timer setting of 7 so the machine will shut itself several seconds after grinding the beans. It is very easy to remove the clear container and scoop the grind into the coffee maker basket. I have been using it daily for a couple of months now and it shows no signs of clogging or malfunction.

Pros: A workhorse grinder that is a vast improvement over blade-type grinders. It allows a variety of grinds (and I use all of them -- for a French press, Melitta pot, & electric drip). Cleaning takes about 30 seconds using a pastry brush over the sink. The unit grinds rapidly and completely, with no jams.
Cons: Makes a bit of noise, but, hey, it's a GRINDER! For me, the timer is virtually useless, since I brew a strong cup and always use the maximum time. There is a very small amount of leakage around the edges while grinding, but it's easily manageable -- especially if the unit is taken apart over a sink. Really no big deal.
Summary: I rated the unit 4 stars only because it's not perfect, but I think it was a good value for the price and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another. By the way, I recently saw a similar unit under a different brand (the name of which I don't recall).
