Percolators have come back to home kitchens, and the Presto 12-cup stainless steel coffee maker is a prime example. Its elegant, hotel-style design brings a touch of luxury to what is for many a daily pleasure. This coffee maker brews up to twelve cups of coffee at a cup-a-minute rate, which it then keeps at a constant, piping-hot serving temperature. An indicator light in the base announces when the coffee is ready. The inner fixtures--the filter basket and perk tube--are also made of stainless steel, rather than the more common (and less durable) aluminum. The power cord is removable to make storage simple. Before cleaning the coffee maker, unplug the unit and allow it to cool completely. Wash the coffee maker with warm, sudsy water and dry it thoroughly; it is not immersible. To preserve the gloss of the stainless steel, do not use steel wool or harsh, abrasive cleansers. The perk spout and filter basket can be cleaned with a brush or pipe cleaner. This percolator does the job just fine. The only thing I can say negative is that the lid is a little tight when you try to take it off. It is especially difficult when it is hot. Besides that, which isn't much, I really like it.

First of all, the reason we bought this is because, in general, percolators make great tasting coffee. They can turn even the worst quality beans into a good cup of coffee. Initially, the Presto lived up to our expectations. And after doing the following, it is once again making great cups of coffee.
Tip #1 - Grind your coffee using the appropriate setting.
After some usage, we would at times get a mouthful of grinds. We realized it was important to use the percolator setting on the coffee grinder at the supermarket. Since then, an occasional coffee grind finds its way into our cup.
Tip #2 - Clean the filter basket with a brush.
Despite cleaning the pot before each usage, the coffee was gradually getting weaker each day. We then realized that the holes in the bottom of the filter basket were clogged. We could not unclog them using a sponge so I started poking each one individually with a toothpick before deciding there was no way we would have the time or patience to do it every day. So, we tried a brush with plastic bristles and, within seconds, the basket was completely unclogged. So, we bought a small brush with a long handle and use it to clean the filter basket and the bottom of the pot.

I bought this based on reviews that said the coffee was much stronger than drip grind. I'm sure that it does brew much stronger coffee than many drips, but I had to use more coffee in it and it still did not have the same strong flavor as my Krups did. Brewed VERY hot coffee however, for those who like it to start off that way. Overall, a very good backup pot for me.

I'm shopping to replace my old one that I've had and used every day since the eighties except when I was on vacation .When it looked dingy I used ''Dip It " pot cleaner this is alot better system than drip for me because my water and its minerals trashed Mr. coffies etc. I make a full pot everyday cleanes easy .. Make sure you clean out the standpipe and heating element again.. Easy .. Ive Done Wrong with it..Kept the pot on till it was dry ..emersed it to wash.. mind you not often. Can you emagine the gallons of coffie that went through er? What's wrong with her now is awire that looks like a special heat coil wire if I find arepair kit or something i'll repair it.

I researched forever before buying this coffee maker to replace my old drip machine (which never made tasty coffee, I thought it was just me). This thing had consistently positive reviews and I couldn't be happier. Probably the only thing I miss about my old coffee maker was the auto shut off. At least I never had to worry that I'd go to work without unplugging it. Aside from that, I love the coffee that comes out of this machine, I love that it brews quickly and is ridiculously easy to clean. Everyone that comes to my house is impressed and others are now going to get one too because the coffee just tastes so much better (and is so much hotter).
