1 out of 5 stars Remember cheaper is better   October 7, 2008
ditzy toy (IA)
I got this as a Christmas gift in 2007. It worked very good for about 2 weeks, then I have to keep pushing it to start about 8 times just to get 1 fresh pot. It kept stopping. Now I boil water on the stove and pour it over the coffee grounds. I can't believe my daughter paid over $ 40 for this coffee maker, when I've had better results with a cheaper model.

1 out of 5 stars SHORT POTTING ME   August 24, 2008
DARTHTATER (PHILA, PA)
HAS THIS FOR 3 YEARS AND IT DOESN'T COMPLETE A BREW CYCLE ANYMORE. TAKES 9 MIN. TO BREW 6 CUPS. THE TEMP IS FINE. THERMAL POT KEEPS COFFEE WARM FOR A WHILE, NEVER TIMED IT. GET DRIPS FROM POT, ALWAYS CLEANING COUNTER. SEEMS LIKE MR. COFFEE HAS GONE DOWN HILL. HAD A MR. COFFEE BEFORE THIS ONE, GLASS POT, NEVER HAD PROBLEMS. HAD A GOOD REPUTATION IN THE PAST. THINK TWICE ON THIS ONE. NOW LEANING TOWARD SINGLE SERVE BREWER, CAUSE THIS ONE'S OUTTA HERE.

4 out of 5 stars Works as a Coffee Maker Should   July 29, 2008

I've had this coffee maker for about six months and haven't had any problems so far. I'd like to address a few of the common complaints from the one and two star reviews. First off, the coffee has always brewed hot for me, and stays hot for several hours. I've never pre-heated the carafe, and never would, and the coffee is still steaming hot after two to three hours (I've never let it sit all day, but I'd imagine it would stay hot for several more hours). Secondly, I use a permanent filter so I've never had a problem with paper filter collapse- this is a common problem with all coffee makers, not just this one, so I wouldn't necessarily blame this coffee maker for that. Third, if you can screw in your gas cap on your car, you can screw on the carafe lid. I've never even thought twice about screwing on the lid, and I think it's a little ridiculous that people are actually complaining about this (it's like saying, "Oh my God, you have to plug it into the wall! What a pain!") Fourth, yes there are overflow holes on the back, perhaps not the best design, but I'm careful when I add water to the reservoir so I've never had a problem with water spilling out the back (they do this so you don't add too much water, but they should probably just make the reservoir smaller- I agree this is a MINOR design flaw). In conclusion, I'm very happy with my purchase and I no longer have to drink hot mud from a glass carafe. It's simple to use, makes a good cup of coffee, and keeps it hot for hours. I'd be weary of the one and two star reviews- most of the comments seem overly nitpicking and border on the ridiculous (perhaps Hamilton Beach employees?)

1 out of 5 stars If only I could rate this at less than one star.....   June 10, 2008
Kathleen Cook (Shell, Wyoming)
This is the WORST coffee maker I have ever purchased. I challenge anyone to be able to pour a cup of coffee without the darn thing dripping all over the counter. Couple that with the fact that the coffee NEVER comes out hot and then rapidly deteriorates to lukewarm. I thought the thermal carafe would keep the hot coffee hot, and keep it fresher....WRONG! There are a lot of quality Mr. Coffee products....this is just not one of them!

The coffee doesn't stay hot for very long..not worth the price..On a scale of 1 to 10. It's a 1...
