5 out of 5 stars Great coffee after six months   July 22, 2008
Mike D. (Washington State)
I received this coffee maker for Christmas last year. Nobody else in the house drinks coffee, and I only need a cup or two in the morning to get me started. So a 10-cup pot was a bit overkill. The Jura line of makers is a bit more than I wanted anyone to spend on me for coffee. So I did the research between the "pods" and the Keurig K-cups. Each has positives and negatives, but in the end I went with Keurig because of the variety of coffees and the simplicity of operation.

Every single morning, I turn this unit on, then microwave some half and half to warm it up (otherwise the coffee gets cold too quickly). I put in a K-cup, usually Rainforest Espresso Timothy's World Coffee, Extra Bold Rainforest Espresso, K-Cups for Keurig Brewers, 25-Count Boxes (Pack of 2) because it just tastes wonderful. I pick the medium size and wait 30 seconds. The brewing is pretty quiet - just a bit of noise as the water is forced through the coffee. Now comes the "loud" part - when the water is pumped from the tank to the brewer. This can be a bit loud, and if any part of the machine is loose the vibration makes it even louder. But it lasts maybe ten seconds. Then that's it!

The coffee comes out hot and perfect every single time. I believe the only bad cup I've ever had was when I forgot to replace the K-cup and re-brewed it. That was pretty horrible. I'm actually drinking a cup now. If you want the coffee to stay hot for long, you solve the problem like you would with any other brewer. You buy a high-end insulated coffee cup like the Nissan Thermos Nissan Ultimate 14-Ounce Stainless-Steel Vacuum Travel Tumbler. With the lid on, I've had my Keurig coffee stay warm for several hours.

There is one downside of going with the K-cup system: buying the K-cups themselves. Only a couple of high-end retail stores carry any K-cups at all, and their selection is usually very limited. I've never seen a grocery store carry them. You need to buy them online. Don't mess around with the "basket" - it is sloppy and you won't get a perfect cup. Just order the cups! Although there are many online stores that carry K-cups, I tend to use Amazon because they always seem to have stock and the reviews are very helpful in selecting a winner. See my Rainforest Espresso link above for my favorite - it is also the favorite of every guest I've ever made coffee for.

Overall, I'd buy this unit again in a heartbeat. In fact I've bought a couple as gifts for friends and relatives who need a small amount of coffee and want the convenience.

5 out of 5 stars K-CUP EXCHANGE   July 17, 2008
Watch Guy (USA)
Hi K-Cup users,
I started a User Group on Yahoo called K-CUP EXCHANGE. it's for exchanging unwanted K-Cups. This is simply a site that allows you to sell/trade/give your unwanted coffee flavors to someone else in the group to try. It's your business how it's done. You can also tell everyone your experiences with different flavors, and what to watch out for.

This Group is the logical way for us to do this, as no one wants to get stuck with 50 cups of a flavor they totally dislike, right? It also gives you the chance to try a flavor you'd never buy from the description.

Anyway, the group is 100% free to join and use, and I'll do my best to monitor it for spam. It's at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/K-CUP/

Hope to see you there. Dean

5 out of 5 stars Superb coffee system.   July 7, 2008

I purchased the B60 for my wife for mother's day. Truth be told, I wanted to use it as well and was tired of making an entire pot of coffee for one cup. Like everyone else, we hate instant, and this is an amazing compromise. Everyone knows how easy this machine is to use and how neat and clean it is. It really is a superiorly designed product. Perhaps the most critical factor in gaging how good the coffee is is the quality of the K-cup. This cannot be overstated. A bad K cup, of which there are many, will make a poor cup of coffee and a great K cup will make an almost perfect cup of coffee. Likewise, some K cups cannot be used with the largest cup setting whereas others are robust enough to handle it. Others have written extensively about their k cup routines. I like the Timothy's Midnight Magic (bold) and the Kona blend(super smooth) and for the flavored ones the Van Hautte flavors are markedly better than green mountain even though the latter costs more. The hot chocolate is OK but not great, but it is so much neater than my kids making individual cups that I like this as well. I enjoy this machine so much that I had my office buy the industrial version. Morale is way up since this arrived.

5 out of 5 stars Great coffee maker   June 30, 2008

I love this coffee maker. I don't drink coffee but my husband does so there is no waste. I don't need to throw out pots of coffee now. My friends love all the variety of coffee that you can make. They say the coffee is great. I do recommend this coffee maker.

5 out of 5 stars The Perfect Cup of Coffee   June 27, 2008
Marty Rhodes (Indianapolis, IN)
My wife and I purchased this unit after using one owned by a family member. We have different tastes: I like bold coffee, my wife likes light and/or flavored. With this little unit you get the best of both worlds AND there is no wasted coffee compared to a traditional coffee maker (I usually made more than we drank). You just make what you need...one cup at a time. There are dozens of coffees to choose from and once you drop the "k-cup" in the holder, in seconds, you have the perfect cup of coffee.
