1 out of 5 stars Expensive mistake   March 16, 2010
M. E. OMEALEY (Northern VA)
I just bought a Special Edition at Target one hour ago. I unpacked it and followed the "Getting started guide" to run a small cup of water through the machine with no coffee. Following this, I brewed my first cup with one of the included k-cups. I selected the medium cup setting and although the output was a little less than I expected, it was tasty. I removed the k-cup and closed the lid planning to run just water through the machine to measure the output, but the machine shut off by itself after chugging and displaying "Not Ready" in the display for several minutes. I turned the machine back on and again was greeted by the chugging noise and the "Not Ready" words in the display. Once again, after several minutes instead of "Ready to Brew" the machine just shut off. After unplugging and plugging the machine back in and trying a couple of more times without success, I called the Customer Service line.

The guy who answered took all my information and had me go through the steps again while on the line, with the same results. After apologizing, the rep offered to send me a replacement machine; however, when I asked how long this would take since I would be without a coffee maker in the interim, I was informed that it would take 3 - 7 business days. I told him that this was totally unacceptable and would be returning the machine to Target.

The only reason I called customer service in the first place is because this was the only Special Edition my local Target had on the shelf and I knew that I would not be able to get a replacement at the store. Had Keurig been willing to overnight a replacement for their defective product, I may have been willing to give it another chance, but I'm not willing to spend this kind of money on a defective product and then have to wait a week or more without coffee for them to use the cheapest shipping method available to them.

Unfortunately, I should have taken the negative reviews more seriously. I cannot recommend this machine since the quality control is apparently lacking.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed   March 14, 2010
Anonymous Reviewer (USA)
Everyone drinks something different. Some of us drink hot cocoa. Some of us drink hot tea. Some of us drink regualr coffee, while others drink de-caf. So, we were excited to purchase a Keurig machine.

Once we got it home and used it, we were disappointed. The tea doesn't taste as good as when I brew it the old fashioned way. The hot cocoa does not taste as good as when we make it the old fashioned way (milk and hot cocoa on the stove in a pot). So, mostly, we were disappointed in the taste. Also, our mug never seems to be full.

It is very easy to make this, and it is quick clean up. However, the taste just isn't for us.

3 out of 5 stars It's a beautiful thing *when* it works   March 13, 2010

I received this machine as a Christmas present. When it brews it is great but the hitch is getting the dang thing to work. Mine constantly is having glitches. Most of the time it will heat the water up but switches itself off before it brews the cup. This is a constant problem that I don't have time to mess around with all morning as I'm trying to get to work. I've followed all directions to reset the machine - unplug the unit, reset the water tank, etc but it doesn't work. Recently, on the rare occassions it does brew, it will brew a tiny amount then its done. This is regardless of the size of cup chosen. I demineralized it as per instructions using vinegar and that didn't work either. I finally called customer service and I have to say they were exceptional. They have sent me a replacement machine so I'm hoping it works. They told me this unit has had a lot of problems and after doing a lot of research online it does indeed seem these problems are quite common. Bottom line: If it works its great and their customer service is wonderful, BUT there are some serious bugs that need to be worked out. Given the cost of this machine, it should not have all these issues.

4 out of 5 stars Good, fast coffee   March 13, 2010

We have a small company, and I thought I do something good for morale and get one of these machines (Keurig B60).

I bought it used, and our staff and I love it. I was a little concerned about the water in the reservoir becoming stale, but we drink too much coffee for that to be an issue. Nearly foolproof to use - I admit I never read the manual - but you sometimes have to lift the filter holder arm to get the cup size light to blink so you can make your selection. There's probably a right sequence, but I don't have a manual, and its no big deal.

I was originally very skeptical about these 1 cup machines. The concept looked a lot like these ink printers to me: buy a cheap printer, but then you're stuck with really expensive ink cartridges. But Keurig has licensed their cup system, so lots of different ones out there; you're not locked into one manufacturer. I like that. The 50 pack cups on Amazon so far go as low as sixteen and some dollar, great. That's 32c per cup, very competitive.

Of course we had a coffee machine before, but it was a big hassle to get it going, or someone would forget to throw out the filter, so over a week or so it starts to be alive... nasty. They never seemed to rinse the coffee can when done, or turn off the machine, so you're stuck with burned in coffee. No more.

The other things is of course that everyone gets their own version of coffee now - I bought the carousel thing for twenty some dollars, keep some decaf, breakfast blend, french roast, and whatever is on sale handy, and the staff and I love it. Plus with the 3 different cup sizes you can choose how strong you want it. Highly recommended for that reason alone.

One less star from perfect: Our machine makes a louder noise when it starts a cycle: the pump starts getting water into the heating chamber, and that motor makes the drip catcher shake, which is louder than I prefer. Takes a few sec, but still. That drip catcher is not really attached to the machine, so it can be easily removed should it be required to be emptied, but that means it is loose and can rattle easily due to vibrations by the various pumps.
I plan on putting a little carpet thing under the machine, or a rubber pad, to see if that stops it; right now its on top of a counter and rattles easily.

5 out of 5 stars Great brewer and best customer service I have experienced in years   March 12, 2010
P. Schmelzel
My wife and I received this brewer for Christmas. It works perfectly and we love it. We get to try out lots of different flavors of coffee and tea and it is perfect for making a drink right before heading off to work. Overall, great purchase and we love it. I also want to say something about their customer service. Sadly, our brewer did start acting up after about 3 months. However, one email to their customer service and they sent us a brand new one to replace the old one. I haven't had this sort of customer service in a very long time. We will be happy customers for many years.
