Product Description From whole beans to brewed coffee without the guesswork or the mess, this 10-cup programmable coffeemaker features a completely automatic, integrated mill-and-brew system. Simply add water and whole-bean coffee, select from seven grind selections (or turn the grinder off to brew already ground coffee), then enjoy the freshest, most flavorful coffee imaginable. The unit's brew-pause function allows for pouring a cup mid-brew, and its clock display automatically springs forward, falls back, and resets after a power failure. Other highlights include a water reservoir with a large viewing window, high-quality stainless-steel grinding blades, a permanent stainless-steel filter basket, a warming plate with automatic shutoff, and hidden cord storage. 10-cup programmable coffeemaker grinds and brews automatically for ease of use 7 grind selections; adjustable strength; brew-pause; warming plate with auto shutoff

Bad Engineering September 29, 2008 Penny (Vail, CO) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Well, it seemed like a good idea. I've used Melitta's old Mill and Brew for years (loved it)and was forced to replace it after the latch broke. Trying to find one just like it, I opted for the new Mill and Brew. I was rather indifferent to the weather station feature but figured if it made as good a cup of coffee as the old one I'd be happy. Once you plug in the coffee maker it (in theory) is supposed to find a signal and the clock will automatically set. Unfortunately I never was able to pick up a signal. I called the customer service number for Fox-International and they told me to place it "closer to Colorado" on my counter. (The atomic clock is located in Boulder). This didn't help at all since I already live in Colorado !!! Fox also told me there was no way to manually set the clock and that I should return it. Thinking that was ridiculous, who would make a coffee maker with a timer feature with no way to set the clock, I e-mailed Melitta. True, if it doesn't pick up a signal, there is no way to manually set the clock which makes the timer (which I use every day) completely useless. To Melitta's credit, they did offer to replace it with the old model. They said they still had a couple of the old ones on hand. Since I simply wanted to replace my old one all along I'm now happy. The new model may work just fine if you live in Boulder but if you're in a rural area, it's pretty useless. I could have lived with this thing if I could have set the clock. I hope these folks get their ducks in a row because their engineers got a little too cute and have (for folks in rural areas) destroyed a very good product.
Don't buy this product September 5, 2008 Texres
Do not buy this product unless you are sure that the FM signal required to set the clock is available in your area. This signal is different than that for weather radio or an atomic clock. Without a signal, the machine cannot be programmed. Also, do not buy anything from Orangesandonions. They have a Five!! day return policy!!! So if a product arrives during the week, as mine did, and you find out on the weekend that you don't get a signal but have to wait until Monday to confirm it with Salton (the manufacturer) then you are out of luck. This may be the shortest return policy of any mail order business I have ever dealt with. Also, these units are being discounted everywhere including Tuesday Morning.
Fresh Coffee, Weather Info Handy August 9, 2008 Kai Brinker (Brooklyn) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This machine makes my mornings so much better. I'll set it up the night before and then set it to start five minutes before my alarm. The grinder is relatively quiet, although finding the right grind level can be somewhat confusing (there are 7). I've read complaints here about the hot plate being on a one-hour timer. I don't see why anyone would want to keep coffee for over an hour. The plate of this machine is really hot and only has one setting, which is apparently tuned for keeping 10 cups hot, as I usually have two to four cups waiting for round 2 and they're always burning hot. The weather info is nice to have, although I've found I don't really use it that much. Maybe because it's summer so I always just expect it to be hot and sunny out. I haven't experienced the MSN Direct outage / timer reset problem that some reviews have, although my machine almost has a direct line of view to the Empire State Building. Once you find the correct grind to suit your preferences, you will get really fresh and great-tasting coffee from this machine. Life becomes even easier once you figure out how many beans to use for your usual amount of coffee and thus don't have to resort to using the included spoon. My minor complaints: The backlit display has a "sleep" setting, but it's rather questionable since all it shows is a "screensaver" of a cat sleeping while staying lit. There's a backlight setting that allows you to select "on", "off", and "auto". However, the auto off is somewhere around 5 seconds after pushing a button, which is too soon in my opinion. So now mine just glows blue day and night... When there's a storm warning the backlight flashes on and off every 30 seconds or so. It gets kind of annoying as it does this until the forecast no longer includes the advisory. The advisories are often very minor (thunderstorms). At it's current sub-$100 price tag, this machine is well worth it. I've had for about a month now and it has probably already paid for itself by eliminating my Dunkin' Donuts/Starbucks stops on my way to work.
Very cool August 4, 2008 Buddy island bound (Ormond Beach Fl.) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the second one that i had. This one, the latest model, comes with an atomic clock and msn.com weather. the good thing about this is that every time there is a brown out, the clock resets itself so the automatic brew in the morning does not have to be reset. You have to be careful with the 1 cent little locking piece of plastic and the coffee filtering device. Other than that it works like a charm.
Awesome Coffee Maker June 21, 2008 Josh A. Duzan (minneapolis, mn usa) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Awesome coffee maker only one complaint. Can't turn the warming plate back on. You can add a little more water and turn back on. No seperate switch to turn warming plate back on. Other reviews had some complaints but have been using it daily since Dec. 07 and have not had a problem other than human error. Simple and easy to program.
