Editorial Reviews:

When the aroma of freshly brewed coffee--from freshly ground beans--wafts into your bedroom in the morning, you won't need your alarm clock. Preset this coffeemaker for your desired wake-up time, add coffee beans to the grinder, and in the morning the beans are ground to a medium grind and hot coffee awaits in the glass 12-cup carafe. You can also program the machine to start brewing at the end of a dinner party to avoid having to get up from the table, or to have hot coffee waiting after a brisk winter walk. When making fewer than five cups of coffee, use the 1-to-4-cups setting to improve extraction and heat; coffeemakers without this setting often lack the time to heat up properly, and coffee comes out cooler. A disposable charcoal filter removes chlorine and odors from tap water, improving coffee flavor, and should be changed every few months. Other features include the capacity to use preground coffee instead of beans; 30-second Brew Pause, which allows a cup be poured before brewing is complete; and an audible tone to indicate the pot is ready. The grinder removes for easy cleaning, and all removable parts can be washed safely in the upper rack of a dishwasher. The Cuisinart Grind and Brew measures 15 by 8 by 7-1/2 inches and carries a 90-day warranty. --Ann Bieri Editor's note: This is a reconditioned small appliance. Reconditioned generally means that the appliance has been returned to the manufacturer, who returns the appliance to like-new condition. Some appliances may contain cosmetic blemishes.

4 out of 5 stars great value   October 3, 2008
G. Wilberg (Ocala, FL)
I've been using this coffee maker for almost a month and like it a lot. The grinder is very loud, but it seems to do a good job and I like the convenience of having a two-job appliance. The grinder is very somewhat difficult to clean, but I finally hit upon using a soft cosmetic brush (the type used for blush or powder) to get in the corners and it works great with a small amount of soapy water. I didn't like the way the grinder looked after being in the dishwasher, so don't put it there anymore. The unit is quite tall, so it will probably not fit on a counter if it has to sit under a top cabinet, which is not an issue in my kitchen. It's a great value for the price and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends.

4 out of 5 stars Perfect accessory for your kitchen   October 2, 2008
C. Chan (San Francisco, CA)
I purchased one for myself a little over a year ago and it's been great. I get my perfect cup of coffee when I wake up. I love this product because I am always running late and don't always have time to grind the beans, measure the water and wait for it to brew. With this product, prepare everything the night before, set it on my timer and it does everything for me. I just have to step into the kitchen, pour my coffee and head out of the house. With this being said, I purchased a second one for my boyfriend's place thinking that it would be just the same. After using his a few times, the whole machine gave out it's power and stopped working. I had to call the manufacture and tried to get it replaced under it's 90 day warranty. So I've had good and bad experiences with this machine. But over all, I still love it and recommend it. Just make sure if anything is wrong, call the manufacture right away and get it replaced.

3 out of 5 stars Only adequate with a few flaws   September 30, 2008
J. J. Maassen
This product has a number of problems. The grinder is very small for a 12-cup coffee maker, and can only hold enough for about 8 cups of strong coffee. If you like strong coffee and need to make more than 8 cups at a time, buy another machine. Also, the filter basket sometimes flies open during the grinding process, spewing coffee grounds all over the kitchen. That was dramatic! Still, I'm keeping it because it makes a good cup of coffee, and I don't have time, energy, or money to replace it.

5 out of 5 stars Hot, good coffee   September 8, 2008
A. Perry
Beans are completely, evenly ground. Brews fast. Coffee is very hot and consistent. 12 cup is great if you need it. Grinder is loud. Does not come with coffee filter. I bought the recommended permanent filter and it works fine. All parts that need cleaning come out except one spot where grounds shoot into filter. I wipe with a damp paper towel once a week using my finger, doesn't bother me. Does come with disposable charcoal water filter that you do not have to use. Mine stopped brewing after the first few pots. Amazon promptly shipped me another reconditioned one with return of bad one postage paid. Second one works correctly, everyday sometimes twice a day so far. Still rate a 5 for product. The price makes this a 6.

3 out of 5 stars Warning: Does not include Coffee Filter Basket!   September 7, 2008

Foremost: Beware! DGB-500BKFR Doesn't include the filter, which is a huge disappointment. The "reconditioner" packed 4 paper filters in lieu of the "Gold Tone Filter Basket." Basket costs extra!
Second: It's loud! You must be careful with your neighbors, children, small animals, and your spouse!
Third: Coffee comes out delish...
Fourth: Clean up is PAININBUTT!
For $50 bones, you get what you pay for - a cheap grind n' brew.
