Product Description
Today, 58 percent of American households consist of only one or two people, yet most cookbooks still contain recipes designed to serve 6-8. In this follow-up to the bestselling Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker Cookbook, Beth Hensperger offers 125 new recipes specifically designed for the increasingly popular 1 1/2 to 3 1/2-quart slow cooker. This is the perfect book for busy singles and small families who want the convenience of a small slow-cooker-made meal without sacrificing wholesomeness and flavor.

2 out of 5 stars Not Crazy about this Cookbook   September 30, 2008
Grider (Missouri)
I purchased the 2 and 1/2 quart crockpot and hoped this cookbook would provide me with some good recipies in the smaller version cooker. I was disappointed that most of the recipies were not traditional cuisine, (like I'd hoped for) but rather those with spices and flavors we don't care for. Probably my fault for not reading the description more carefully. If you want really "different" recipies, try it, but if you're looking for American cuisine, you'll be disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars Great for two!   September 29, 2008
Deana L. Jowers (southern US)
This is a great addition for my cooking for one or two cookbook collection. I have had such a hard time collecting recipes for one or two people. This is the first for the slow cooker that I have found. I love it. Thanks!

2 out of 5 stars A little testing couldn't hurt ...   May 20, 2008

This book caught my eye with what seemed to be innovative recipes. That is, until I actually tried some. I gave the author the benefit of my doubts regarding the use of items that normally one wouldn't consider slow-cooking - like pork tenderloin. Until I cooked her pork tenderloin with rhubarb recipe, I didn't know it was possible to create shoe leather from tenderloin. My family has expressly forbidden me to try anything else from the book. I have only myself to blame. I was so taken in by the rhurbarb sauce that I overlooked her nonsensical suggestion of 6-7 hours of slow cooking for a tenderloin. Believe me, one thing it wasn't was "fork-tender."

This book is just another blaring example of the flood of cookbooks out there with recipes that haven't been tested. Don't encourage these authors by buying their books. If you want a good cookbook for the slow-cooker, it's tough to beat any of Mable Hoffman's. Just because they ARE your mother's slow-cooker recipes, doesn't make them bad or boring.

4 out of 5 stars Use now and later   May 9, 2008

The perfect wedding present: A 1.5 qt. slow cooker and "Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker (125 yummy) Recipes For Two." Book contains a definitive section on how to choose and tricks to using a slow cooker, how to convert recipes to slow cooker use, and how to increase or decrease recipe sizes. Then for a future gift when their family has expanded, give them an oval 3.5 qt. slow cooker.

This book has some great recipies and works well for individuals like me - one that is not an expert at cooking. My wife was a gourmet cook and often used a crock-pot to prepare wonderful meals. Her passing left a void in my life, including the need to learn how to cook. Now I can prepare great meals that remind me of the "old days." Furthermore, I can the the crock-pot do the work while I continue to write. I even sent a copy of the original book to my daughter. This is a book well worth owning.
