Amazon.com Review
A virtually unbreakable polycarbonate carafe makes this coffee press sturdy enough for picnics, camping, or dorm use. To use a French press, grounds are placed in the bottom of the (preheated with hot water, if possible) carafe, then near-boiling water added. The lid with its stainless-steel rod and filter is pushed down after a few minutes of steeping, and the coffee is ready to pour. Many coffee aficionados swear by the French press method. The Hugo features a second mesh screen in the lid that removes even more of the coffee grounds sediment typically left behind by most coffee presses.

In addition to the polycarbonate carafe, the Hugo features a rubberized comfort-grip handle and plastic frame, which makes it possible for coffee (or tea) to be reheated in a microwave when the lid and stainless-steel fixtures are removed. The Hugo three-cup carafe makes about 12 ounces of coffee, which is merely one large cup for some coffee drinkers. A larger eight-cup model is also available, and both come in black, white, blue, or green. --Ann Bieri

2 out of 5 stars Great coffee, but mine didn't last   June 9, 2008
Flyfishing Guy (Minnesota USA)
This makes great coffee. However, after less than 6 months of less than once per day use the plastic screen holder on the bottom of the plunger is falling apart.

5 out of 5 stars Great little coffee press   April 7, 2008

This press is perfect for one person. I love the unbreakable aspect, and the price is hard to beat.

5 out of 5 stars I'll Never Break A French Press Again!   March 15, 2008
M. Weaver (Seattle, WA USA)
How many of the people reading this have broken a French Press? I've certainly broken at least 4 or 5, and the cost adds up quickly at $20 a pop.

Being a grower of coffee (Kona) and a coffee purist, I was VERY skeptical of plastic. I ran some medium roast through the little device and was impressed by the taste of my coffee. It must be high-density plastic or something that doesn't taint the flavor. Delish!

I'd recommend this gadget to anyone who travels, breaks French Presses, or drinks any coffee or tea. Basically everyone.

1 out of 5 stars Not worth it   January 28, 2008
J. J. Stastny (Maryland, USA)
I wish I had known what they meant by three cups, because it certainly did not hold three 8 oz. cups of coffee. In fact it wouldn't even fill the 12oz. mug that I use for my breakfast cup of coffee.

1 out of 5 stars Cold Coffee and NOT a 3 Cup French Press   January 28, 2008
J. Damian (Los Angeles, CA United States)
Whomever said that this should be considered a "3 cup" French Press must have been living in a different time and space dimension because this most certainly did not put forth more than 1 cup of coffee!

I am a faithful Bodum French Press consumer who is used to glass French Presses. The plastic of this Hugo model might be "unbreakable," but it also allows the coffee to get cold more quickly. It has helped that I have wrapped the press with a tea towel, however, this is a tedious thing to do every time.

I am not happy with this purchase and would not recommend this to staunch coffee afficiandos.
