Product Description
The Fresh Roast Plus 8 home coffee roaster is the latest version of this popular model, with a new timer that goes to 8 minutes and a slightly slower roast profile for more body. The Fresh Roast series has been the starter roaster for many because of its entry level price tag, but don?t let the price fool you - this machine can perform, producing a quality roast. The roast capacity is approximately 3 oz of green coffee beans, yielding enough to brew 12-14 cups of coffee. As a fluid bed (hot air) roaster, the roast cycle is fairly short, yielding a brighter flavor than a drum roaster. This is great for accentuating the differences between different coffee varietals. The machine operates relatively quietly for a hot air roaster and is very simple to use. Fill the beans and turn the dial and in about 6 minutes for an average roast, the beans will start cooling. There are no difficult setting to program. There are two variables you can vary when experimenting with your roasts if you are so inclined: the amount of green beans you put in the roaster and the amount of time you set the roaster for. While we do recommend playing with these variables some, keep in mind, even a less than ideal roast will typically produce coffee that is far superior to any coffee commonly available on the market today. The reason why ? most coffee you can purchase is already stale. Experts recommend using coffee beans within 2 to maybe 3 weeks after roasting for best flavor. After that period, the flavor starts degrading quickly. Ground coffee goes stale even quicker since more surface of the coffee is exposed to air. Green coffee beans in their un-roasted form can be stored for up to 2 years. The coffee does not rapidly go stale until after it is roasted. Plus you save money too since green coffee beans are typically much less expensive than roasted. Just think of the convenience too ? buy green beans in bulk since they can be stored for a while and only roast when you need more bea

1 out of 5 stars Joe's Coffee House, Don't Buy   January 10, 2008
S. Hollifield (Austin, TX USA)
I am giving this a one star because the designated seller for this page is Joe's Coffee house. They shipped me a used unit that was described as new and was also damaged before it was shipped from what I can tell. The unit broke after the first use. The manufacturer informed me that Joe's is not a direct buyer of this unit and they did not know where they were getting them from. They were however kind enough to fix the unit for me although I have still not received the unit in the mail from them yet.

This unit only roasts 1/3 of a cup at a time and not the 3 ounces that is described on some of the pages on amazon.

5 out of 5 stars Coffee roaster   December 29, 2007

I purchased this coffee roaster as a Christmas gift for my husband. Not really knowing much about coffee roasters, I am happy to say that my husband is extremely satisfied with this one. He said it is his favorite gift. As a matter of fact, we are thinking about purchasing a second one for our son.

3 out of 5 stars Roaster is fine, the package was missing the coffee beans?   December 28, 2007

The coffee roaster was perfect. My husband loves it. However, it was packaged without the necessary coffee beans to roast in it. Whether this was the sellers error or the mfg error We were not please. It's quick fast, and doesn't make so much at a time for household item. We needed to order coffee beans in order to try it out. My guess is that this was a resell item, and the coffee beans were used up by the seller of it to us. Don't have proof except the missing items suggest it was used once and passed along..

1 out of 5 stars Waste of time and money   December 26, 2007

I recieved this roaster for Christmas and am very underwhelmed. It is constructed with 1950's technology and has no fan speed control and no temperature control. In otherwords, you will never be able to fine tune the ideal roast for different types of beans and personal preferences. What is the point of roasting your own coffee beans if the quality is virtually guaranteed to be lower than that available from your local speciality roaster? This is the type of appliance I would expect to see in a cheap import store selling for $19.95.

I can't imagine anyone actually liking this machine. It's not much more than a hot air popcorn popper that runs at a higher temperature and has a spring loaded timer on the power switch. I think a manual stove-top pan roaster is a giant step up from this poorly concieved device. Don't waste your money.

5 out of 5 stars Qick and Easy Fresh Roasted Coffee   September 9, 2007

This coffee bean roaster is quite the bargain for the money. You can go from green beans to a fresh pot of coffee in less than 30 minutes.
No worries as you load the beans, turn the dial and wait a few minutes for the perfect roast, just as you like it.

I would recommend this coffee roaster to anyone who enjoys a better pot of coffee.
