Amazon.com Review Most ovens, especially old ones, run hotter or colder than their set temperatures indicate. Rather than guessing how much to raise or lower the heat for a particular recipe, bake and roast with precision using a highly accurate oven thermometer like the Taylor Oven Guide. Made from durable, heavy-duty stainless steel, this mercury-free thermometer measures temperatures from 100 to 600 degrees Fahrenheit. The large, easy-to-read face also provides Celsius markings and a heating zone guide as well. Dishwasher-safe, this thermometer can hang in the oven or stand alone. It's NSF listed for food hygiene and safety. --Mary Park

Great until the first washing. September 29, 2008 Charlie Blake (Houston, Texas) This is a decent thermometer, until it is washed. The first time I washed it all the numbers, letters, and lines came off. I do agree with everyone that it was hard to read, but it does measure very well. c
A little hard to read September 24, 2008 Scott Jaeger (Brookfield, WI USA) I've read reviews outside of Amazon as to it's accuracy and I'm basing the four stars on that. It's stays pretty much out the way, as you can set it on the rack or hang it. It is a little hard to read, as you have to be at the correct angle to view it. Like an old fashion glass thermometer to check your body temperature.
Save Your Money September 5, 2008 W. Kline (Burbank, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When the thermometer arrived, the glass tube slid freely in the metal frame, making calibration useless. Amazon's supplier said they'd replace it, and since it was fairly inexpensive, don't bother returning it. I threw it away. The replacement arrived and was much better, and quite accurate, but within 2-3 months in the oven the metal darkened so much (not spattered food, just dark metal), that the black numbers became almost impossible to read - and invisible through the oven door. I don't really use the oven that much, especially in the summer - which is now. Maybe once a week, and I'm not making pizza at 550 F, and it's not a self-cleaning oven either. Then I get a message from Amazon that since they never got a return of the first one they would now charge me for the second. Deep sigh - it's only $12, I tell myself, WTF. Then today, I pick the thermometer up (the only way to read it) with gloves, from my preheated oven and the fluid that is supposed to indicate the temperature is spread throughout the tube like a freakin' bar code. Totally useless, and it won't shake down like a fever thermometer. Second one in the trash. I will NOT buy a third.
Oven Thermometers are extremely Important September 5, 2008 joaniepony (Californis Desert, Ridgecrest) Very few ovens temperatures are correct. I keep two different brands of thermometer in my oven. The one highly recommended by Cook's Illustrated it the Taylor Oven Guide Thermometer. I also keep a few extra to give as small tokens to my wonderful friends.
Impressive August 14, 2008 A. SHAW Until now I have always used oven thermometers with a glass front that eventually discolored or got food on them that baked on and wouldn't come off so you couldn't read the internal temp of the oven without opening the door all the way. This thermometer has large numbers, is easy to read and doesn't have a glass front that eventually clouds over. Price was reasonable, quality is great.
