Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
These beautifully contoured mills combining wood and stainless steel will look good on the table. The pepper mill features a grinding mechanism that cracks peppercorns before they???re ground, giving you the freshest, most flavourful pepper possible???with the adjustable knob on top, you can choose your grind from fine to coarse. The case-hardened steel grinding mechanism has a lifetime warranty. Comes partially filled with peppercorns. Matching salt mill sold separately.Peugeot of France created the pepper grinder in 1842. The patented design of the grinding mechanism created by a company engineer for the first Peugeot pepper mills is still in use today, virtually unchanged. Often copied, but never equaled, the mechanism made of case hardened steel is designed to crack the peppercorns before the actual fine grinding process. The grooves on a Peugeot mechanism are individually cut into the metal, and then case hardened, making them virtually indestructible. The same unyielding commitment that goes into every Peugeot pepper mill mechanism is also evident in the stainless steel salt mechanism. Peugeot grinding mechanisms are the choice of food professionals and discerning cooks around the world.

5 out of 5 stars Fits nicely in hand...   June 9, 2008
J. Catlett (Cville, VA)
This pepper mill is elegant, easy to use and fits nicely in hand. I tend to only grind in one direction, so can't recollect the difference between fine grind and coursely ground pepper. Really like it and would buy it again.

4 out of 5 stars Nice Mill   March 28, 2008

This mill is working great after 2 years. The only issue is the filling it can be a little messy.

1 out of 5 stars lightweight tin top   October 25, 2007

I was quite surprised at the very thin sheet metal top. i expected more from Peugeot, especially at this price. i'm afraid this will dent if i just knock it over on the table. I guess I should have known better than to expect a solid metal topper, but that is what it looks like, and i bought it to get something 'substantial' - not a thin, hollow sheet metal bulb. waste of money. it grinds OK, though.

There was a broken piece on the mill when first received. Customer service was excellent in replacing product.

The fineness-coarseness of the grind cannot be adjusted except by tightening it down. I gets very tight, but tends to loosen up with each grind until you notice large chunks of peppercorn in your food. Unless it's screwed down so tight that you cannot grind at all, it leaves quite a pool of peppercorns on the table. Pretty clumsily made, I think.
