Product Description
KitchenAid's Gourmet Essentials line brings you high quality cookware constructed from brushed stainless steel and aluminum. The brushed 18/10 stainless steel exterior graduates to a gleaming shine at the top while an aluminum disc base fully encapsulated by stainless steel provides even heating across the bottom of the pan. Ultra comfortable cool grip handles are comprised of an 18/10 stainless steel shaft encased in soft silicone rubber. The handles are dual riveted to the pan for added security and strength. Amazon.com Review
There's something clean and pure about cookware that's stainless steel inside and out. This stylishly finished version from KitchenAid's Gourmet Essentials series features a brightly polished interior that discourages food from sticking, and a handsomely brushed exterior with a shiny band along the rim. Each pan is entirely constructed of premium 18/10 stainless steel, except for the encapsulated aluminum disk in the base (aluminum makes a superior conductor of heat), and the silicone grip encasing the handle. Even the tight-fitting lids are stainless steel. Each piece is oven-safe to 400 degrees F and is dishwasher-safe.

Whether you want to fry up pancakes for breakfast, warm soup for lunch, or feed chili to a crowd, this set more than accommodates your most typical cooking needs. The 1-, 2-, and 3-quart saucepans all come with lids, as does the large 8-quart stockpot. The 8- and 10-inch French skillets are nice and deep, great for poaching eggs or stir-frying veggies. Stainless steel cooks most efficiently at medium heat, and can be used to start a dish on the stovetop and finish it in the oven. An excellent value, the set is covered by a lifetime limited warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri

4 out of 5 stars Good quality   April 29, 2008

Amazed at the quality for the price. They handle well and have a good weight without being too heavy. Have used only the saucepans so far.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent performing, easy to clean, good looking, safe to use   April 18, 2008

There are a number of models and designs, but this concerns the item
# 74710, calling Gourmet Essentials.

What first attracted me to this set, was the functionality, the price,
the quality that was shown.

There's a pan for frying steaks, hamburgers, omlets, etc. Next,
a small pan for rice. The largest, is for pasta and potatos; the skillet
is for draining and cooling the pasta. The 2 mid-size pots, I still
haven't found a specialized use for, although perhaps steams spinich,
vegetables, soups of some sorts might be a good idea.

The bottom seams to clean outstandingly easy with mild dish washing
soap, like Palmolive, vs. a Tefal Wok for example, that cooks well,
but seems to deteriorate faster than this set.

The handles bring safety in handling the cooked foods ...the price
of the overall set seamed to me a lot less expensive than comparable
models, such as those from Lagostina, and similar German-designed
and manufactured brands.

The quality is there ... stainless steel in and out.

This is a nice collection vs. using an aluminum pot, for example,
that discolors, warps, has no transparent top cover, etc

5 out of 5 stars Excellent value for the money   April 14, 2008

After doing some research on cookware, I decided to purchase this item and I am sure glad I did!!! Though certainly not the top of the line in cookware, this set is perfect for me. The quality of the cookware is extremely good, not too heavy, not too light. The lids fit nicely but do not allow steam out - something I can live with easily. There are a number of reviews complaining about staining but I found the cookware easy to clean, even in the dishwasher with little or no staining.

I would gladly recommend this set to anyone from the 'new' cook to the experienced cook.

I ordered the KitchenAid cooking pans and I definately got more than I expected. I love 'em. Easy to cook with and they hold the heat. I wish I had gotten them sooner.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent set!   April 8, 2008

I had the non-stick cookware for a long time and this was the first set I've had that doesn't have that coating. The first few times I used it, I set the heat too high and the stuff stuck to the bottom of the pan. It was extremely difficult to get out. However, now that I have gotten the hang of it, things are better. The set is lightweight, but yet it is sturdy. The handles have a rubber coating (my last set didn't, and it sucked having to use potholders just to lift the lid, etc). I am not afraid to damage this set like I was the non-stick - I can use a scrubby in it to clean out the good without fear of destroying it (I can also use utensils, or anything to stir, flip, or mix in the pans). The best plus is that it is dishwasher safe!!!
I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the time it would take to clean the pans when stuff is really stuck in them, but I think that would happen with any "stick"ware. But, as I said before, now that I am getting the hang of having this type of cookware, things don't stick as much or as bad.
I love this company, and this cookware hasn't disappointed me. Consumer reports gave it high marks as well. I would recommend it to anyone looking to get a new set of cookware - make the move away from non-stick!!
