Amazon.com Review
From KitchenAid's Gourmet Essentials line comes this cookware set made of hard-anodized aluminum. Durable, handsomely finished in matte charcoal gray, and known for its exceptional heat distribution and retention properties, hard-anodized cookware is a very popular choice for the home chef. KitchenAid embellishes these pots with stainless-steel handles, riveted for strength and wrapped with cushy, stay-cool silicone grips. The lids, made of break-resistant glass for optimum viewing, also feature silicone-wrapped handles, highly arched to enable easy grasping with a potholder or oven mitt. Both the pans and lids are oven-safe up to 400 degrees F.

An excellent value, this 10-piece set consists of the most frequently used kitchen pots and pans and makes a great gift set. The two skillets, measuring 8 and 10 inches in diameter, handle everyday frying and sautéing needs, from eggs-over-easy to grilled cheese sandwiches to fish filets, then crepes for dessert. Three saucepans holding 1, 2, and 3 quarts let you boil a single egg, heat soup, and slow-cook a creamy risotto with wild mushrooms. The larger 6-quart stockpot with two loop handles works admirably for family-sized batches of pasta, chili, soup, and corn-on-the-cob. The nonstick finish releases food quickly and makes clean up by hand a snap. It's best to keep the nonstick cookware out of the dishwasher. KitchenAid covers the set with a one-year, hassle-free replacement warranty. --Ann Bieri

4 out of 5 stars "Drive by" review   July 4, 2008
DeafeningWhisper (Chicago-ish)
I don't know much at all about pots & pans, but I just wanted to mention a couple of things which may not have been mentioned before (I think it's kind of useless to read the same redundant feedback over and over and, well.. you get my point. We're all busy people, so in an effort to add something new, I bring you this mini-review!

(sorry for the digression and cheap poetry. just can't help myself sometimes)

1. These pots/pans are of thinner construction than I was expecting. For example, I've got some Calphalon Kitchen Essentials pans from Target and these KitchenAid Gourmet Essentials are less thick or dense than those from that Calphalon hard-anodized collection. Is this a problem? I don't know. These KitchenAid pots/pans seem more prone to getting bent out of shape or warped, but I don't really know if this should be a practical concern or not. Time will tell.

On the other hand, being of thinner construction, they are probably a little lighter, so they could be a plus for some users.

2. This set is currently stocked in Kohls dept. stores, so if you want to get a first hand look before purchasing, that's where you'll find them. Bare in mind, there is some occasional variance from store to store as to what products they stock, but they SHOULD have this set in stock.

ok, that's it. g'day!

5 out of 5 stars Great Product   June 21, 2008

I was a little apprehensive about ordering this product. But since there were some favorable reviews and I had checked it out on consumer reports, I thought I would go ahead. Actually this is the first set I have bought (previously I would just buy unmatched pieces) that matched, and that I am happy with. I don't mind washing the pans by hand as they work quite well on my ceramic top cookstove. They recommend lowering the heat somewhat and I have found that the food cooks up well on a lower heat, with an even distribution of heat (that I didn't have with my old pans)the handles are quite comfortable, and the pans aren't too heavy for me. I had fx my elbow--so I am concerned about not having pans that are too heavy. I haven't used them in the oven yet so I can't comment on that. I was pleased with the price and the 2 day shipping. I'm glad Amazon had them available and for the price!

3 out of 5 stars Basic Cooking not for Entertaining   June 12, 2008

My sister and I purchased this product as a gift for our mother. She loves the non-stick surfaces and the ability to store the lids in limited spaces, however I think she was disappointed with the size of the pots and frying pan. Very small compared to her older cookware. Was not anxious to get rid of her old oversized cookware as she often entertains a large family. Is perfect for family of two.

i've owned this set since december 07.
generally, i tend to burn things a lot, and let me tell you, this set took a beating during the first couple of months i owned it. i was pleasantly surprised with how it held up. i still use it, and have a feeling i will keep it for a long time. great price for the set too!!

5 out of 5 stars I Would Do it Again   April 26, 2008

I'm so glad I bought these. I researched, checked around and chose these hoping I would be happy. I am and the set is the right size for me. I had too many pans taking up space and when I got rid of all of them, tired of having things I didn't use, I settled for this and all pans are used - Don't pay more for a bunch of pans that aren't necessary.
