Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
In fewer than five years, Rachael Ray has radically changed the way America cooks dinner. Her perky-girl-next-door swagger, her catchphrases for techniques, and her dinner ideology of simpler, less expensive and just in time have sold billions of books and placed her at the top of the talent heap of food television personalities.Furi knives have long been recognized for their outstanding performance and terrific value. The Gusto Grip collection was developed in conjunction with popular chef Rachael Ray, who loved the professional qualities of F??ri, but desired a convenient non-slip grip in her favorite color, orange. The result is a knife that appeals to home chefs and professionals alike. The Gusto Grip handles feature "Furi Guard", antimicrobial inhibitors incorporated directly and permanently into the Gusto Grip handles. This is done during the manufacturing process, giving the handle an added safeguard against microorganisms that can degrade the handle material over time. The East/West Knife measures 7-in. long and is the perfect knife for vegetables and meats alike. The high-carbon, stainless blade is highly durable and offers precision cutting and lasting edge retention. For best results, F??ri knives should be sharpened regularly, hand washed and dried thoroughly before storing.Introduced in the U.S. by Matfer, F??ri knives originated in Australia, designed by engineer

2 out of 5 stars Nice knife, but handle isn't durable   September 21, 2008
Timothy L. Wisner (KY United States)
I've used this knife for over a year and it has performed very nicely, up until the inner plastic handle broke. Now it is held together by the urethane outer grip but broken on the inside. If the knife had a full metal tang all the way to the tailpiece, it would be really nice but the handle is truly just plastic. I do not mind the orange color, it kind of grew on me. Now if I can just find out how to use the limited lfetime warranty hopefully they will replace it. It did perform as well as much more expensive knives but it lacked the durability. The soft grip is great for extended use.

3 out of 5 stars a bit heavy   September 3, 2008

I was excited to purchase this quality knife. I'd been using a similar one, but much less expensive. I was disappointed after it's first use, as it was too heavy to maneuver like I wanted. You'd think heavy would be good -- good construction, good materials -- and this probably is true. However, after owning this knife for over 2 months, I still reach for my older one and leave this one in the drawer. It IS very sharp, but too clumsy for me to use.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Knife   June 19, 2008

I've had this knife for about 6 months now. It was a bonus item when I order one of the pans so of course I took it. I have another Santoku style knife that I love but for the deal another couldn't hurt, right? Well this one is much lighter than my original one, it cuts extremely well and while the grip felt a little odd to me at first (compared to the one I was used to) I find that I really like it.
So, cuts great, lighter and easier to maneuver and comfortable to hold. I find it is the one I reach for most often. Win - win.

I really like how easily the knife slices through things. It is sharp and cuts very nicely. I am pleased with this knife.

1 out of 5 stars Cheaply Made   June 27, 2006

I tried this knife at Sur La Table at the Furi demo. They appeared to be very sharp. However I did not like these knives for the following reasons

1) I dont care much for the cheap plastic-like orange handles

2) The finish on the knives appear to be cheap. Furi implies that these knives are made in Germany. However they are cheaply "Made in China". Now generally I dont care that much .. everything is now made in China anyways.. But when I am paying so much money for a product, I was hoping it was made in Germany or USA.

3) The case is even more cheaply made.

Personally, I would wait for a sale on the Global or the Wustof knives.
