Not worth it April 30, 2008 FilterDown This thing has two things going against it. First its a little too light steel which will burn some of your less liquid dishes (beans or chili), but is a non-issue for say stock. The other is that most pressure cookers "high" setting is 15psi, this one is 12psi. So if you are following tried and true recipes your going to have to add time, which is a dicey proposition for a pot you can't look into while cooking. All that said I'm giving it 2 stars just because I've never seen a perfect pressure cooker.
Not worth the price. December 20, 2007 P. Kim (IL) The cooker is rather low quality especially for the price. The thickness of the steel is much more befitting to the $20 pots at walmart. This thing has no heft at all even with the lid. Disappointing.
Stainless steel is nice, good accessories August 16, 2007 C. Chu 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This pressure cooker does the job. However it is a little fragile and the plastic parts on the lid are prone to cracking. I just received one from Amazon that was not packaged properly, some flimsy paper stuffed into a packing box, damaged in shipping. The cooker is still functional, but there is a missing piece off the part that the pressure regulator sits. This is the second cooker that I ordered online, the first one from another seller was also broken in this part. I kept it because return shipping ($21) would have not been worth it. Otherwise, the cooker works fine, although the rubber gasket tends to wear out too fast, lasting only a year, before it leaks and cannot hold the pressure. Fortunately, Mantra has a website and you can order replacement parts for just about every piece, the handles, gasket, pressure regulator. Update: My husband found out that if he just stretches the gasket, then it'll fit tightly in the lid. The website also said not to store the gasket inside the lid, and to hang it on a peg when not using. Basic cooking instructions are included as well as a recipe book. The steamer is a nice addition, the basket can be used either as a steamer or just cook pasta inside of it and lift out of the water when done.
