4 out of 5 stars Take 1, not 2   October 26, 2008
PeggyK (Oregon)
I'm the only coffee drinker in the household and have had one of these for several years. It worked great for single usage; when there was a 2nd coffee drinker around I had trouble with spillage and uneven distribution. Now we have a Mr. Coffee for when there's company.
After 3 years or so, it just stopped working but, at this price, I had no qualms about getting another. So far this one has worked as well as the first. The only difference I can see is that the cord seems shorter so that I can't fit the unit under the kitchen cabinet as easily as I could with the first one. I have to angle it to get it out enough to open the top and that's inconvenient. I'll probably end up getting a small extension cord or plug which will solve the problem but that's why I'm giving this one 4 stars rather than 5. Otherwise - great product, great price.

1 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed   October 18, 2008
jasper ross (Rockford, IL)
I am VERY disappointed in this product. It did not work from day one when it was taken out of the box. It will not brew two cups of coffee without spilling over on to the counter. It seems it just keeps filling up one cup and cannot switch to the other. I would NOT recommend this item to anyone. It was a waste of time and money.

4 out of 5 stars Had this for years, really like it   October 12, 2008
A. Shukaitis (Colorado Springs, CO)
I was surprised to find some people having serious complaints with this coffee maker. I've had mine for years and never had a problem. I agree that it's hard to pour the water in without spilling a little, but I think it's more operator error than anything else. It isn't that much a design flaw of the coffee maker as much as its a design flaw of normal mugs. Every time I've made a mess trying to pour water in, it's been because the water flows back down the outside of the mug. So I'm going with operator error.

I love this maker since it's only me and my fiancee in the house, so it's easy to make just the right amount of coffee. Also being able to brew it directly in the travel mugs is great! Saves me the time of pouring it in there, and it's one less thing to clean up!

You don't have to use just the mugs that came with it. We just pour in the water from a regular coffee cup and then brew straight into the cup. We also use it all the time to make hot tea. One time I even used it to heat water super fast for a recipe that called for 1 cup boiling water. It didn't get it boiling, but it got it super hot much faster than I could have boiled water.

It's been awesome for me, and has worked for years. Even survived 2 moves, one of which was from Ohio to Colorado. Only draw back is when I have company over and I can't brew enough coffee at once for everyone. But that's not what it was designed for, so I don't really hold it against it to much. I recommend this coffee maker, and would buy it again (or their newer model) if mine happened to break.

1 out of 5 stars Failure of the Coffee Maker   September 14, 2008

The coffee maker performed as advertised. However two days after the expiration of the warranty the unit ceased functioning due to the failure of the pumping mechanism to operate. The unit is not constructed for long-term utilization

5 out of 5 stars Better then Cuisinart TTG-500 Two-to-Go Coffeemaker   September 8, 2008

I recently purchased this item from Amazon.com. After seeing the reviews and in need of a few new travel mugs for my Cuisinart TTG-500 Two-to-Go Coffeemaker, I opted for the Melitta. After receiving it, it figured, what the heck? I'd try it out. Once unboxed, I noticed several features I wish I had on my Cuisinart.

First off, the Melitta has a see thru water level window. On my Cuisinart, it's on the inside. Being that I keep the coffee maker under the counter, I have a hard time seeing the water level.
Winner: Melitta

Second: When I'm on the go, I rush to make a cup of Java and on the Cuisinart, I have to wait a few minutes after it drips. If I don't, when I return, I find that the left over coffer trapped in the filter grounds dripped on the base of the Cuisinart and onto the counter. On the Melita, it has a removable drip and overflow tray. Any dripping is caught in the overflow tray. Just remove remove the tray and rinse.
Winner Melitta

Third, I always felt it a pain having to turn on the the Cuisinart as the power button is on the left side. (most people are right handed) On the Melitta, the power button is in the front. Easy to get to.
Winner: Melitta

Last: The Cuisinart is a but taller while the Melitta is a bit wider.
Winner: Draw

Overall, If I ever needed another 2 cup coffee maker, I would gladly buy the Melitta. If the price of the Cuisinart and the Melitta was comparable, I will opt for the Melitta
