Product Description It's not just a toaster - it's bakes and broils, too! A handsome unit constructed of highly polished stainless steel, this spacious toaster oven uses convection to circulate heated air around food for fast, more even cooking. In fact, two sets of three quartz heating-elements - a total output of 1600 watts - cook food up to 30% faster. An easy-to-read digital LCD display is a breeze to use. The unique crumb tray and nonstick interior surface make cleanup a pleasure. One-year warranty.

Electrical Malfunction October 5, 2008 N. Lovell (MARIETTA, GA USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Take this review for what it is worth. I bought Amazon's "refurbished" Krups FBC2 6 oven. I arrived in original box with all original packaging. Everything looked from the outside to be satisfactory. All parts and pieces were present and accounted for. I ran it through its initial 30 minute bake cycle as instructed to do by the Owners Manual. Performed fine. I used it to toast pita bread 4+ times over the week-end. Everything fine. I leave it plugged in but in the off position for the week. When I return to it, I notice that there is no power to the unit. It turns out that the oven "killed" the surge bar it was plugged into. I move the oven and plug it into the same circuit that the refrigerator is plugged into ( not the same outlet, mind you). Turning on the oven, instantly the oven and the refrigerator (compressor on) trip the circuit breaker. After resetting the breaker, the refrigerator and the oven (!) turn on. Why is the oven on? The ON button hasn't been pushed. I hit the OFF button. The oven remains on with all heating elements blasting! It is getting super hot! I quickly unplug it. Return it to its box. Ship it back to Amazon. "refurbished" my #$%!
excellent product September 29, 2008 Ardelio 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
quick heating, roomy for baking or warming a loaf of bread, excellent product. I had the similar Cuisinart Toaster Oven before this one, but this one is decidedly superior and adds the convection oven feature, which the Cuisinart did not have.
Spontaneous Combustion in Your Own Kitchen!! September 29, 2008 Craig Reynolds 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
We were very happy with our Krups toaster oven until the morning, 3 months after purchase, we discovered it had spontaneously turned itself on sometime during the night and was glowing red-hot on the kitchen counter. It wouldn't turn off until we unplugged it. Further experiments reveal that the timer and the off button no longer work. Do not purchase this toaster oven! If you have one, unplug it! If you use this oven, don't trust the timer to turn it off! I've filed a report with the Consumer Products Safety Commission asking for a recall.
Sadly It's A Mafuntion and Dangerous September 29, 2008 sirilivtar (Los Angeles) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Malfuntioned within first 30 minutes. Read a lot of reviews complaining of things going wrong, but looked so good. Krups name, all electronic with convection, quartz heating elements that switch back and forth for even cooking, great size, such simple controlls, some really good reviews and did I mention the name Krups. To be dramatic this oven is like playing russian roulette. But do take it seriously. This oven can be DANGEROUS. I open the box, took it out, unpacked, read the directions and plugged it in. Set it to bake for 15 minutes as instructed. So far so good. Notice the oven gets very hot bit i read about it and I'll handle it. Start putting a meal together, look over at the oven and the broiler is on! I check the controls three times and they are off! Unplugged it immediately. Later tried pugging it in again just to see what would happen though there's no way I can keep it now. Broiler goes on immediately! Gees Louise! I mean really! Guess I'm just lucky it happened right away and like not when I was gone for the weekend or in bed asleep. Could also be a problen with children and other fragile things. I knew from some others reviews that I was taking a gamble. It's quite something when you look over and see your new Krups toaster oven has turned itself on, is glowing red hot and you never told it to. And did I mention the outside gets really hot.
this is nice, nice, nice September 11, 2008 lettylynton 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased the Krups Black Convection Toaster Oven a few months ago from Fortunoff because I was upgrading what I already had, a Proctor Silex 4-Slice Black Toaster Oven. The differences are night and day. I can't tell you how much I love this new appliance. ...But before I get to how much I adore this, I wanted to address some of the confusion about the different Krups countertop ovens. The item number of this unit is FBC212. Krups also manufactures 2 similar units, item numbers: FBC312 and FBC412. All 3 units look almost exactly the same and have nearly identical features (they even all use the same instructional booklet). However FBC312 and FBC412 are slightly more expensive. The main difference between those 2 units and this one is that they have an extra function called the "expert controlled cooking function." It just means that they have some preset cooking times and temperatures for certain recipes but in my opinion does not warrant the higher prices. If you're a true domestic cook you don't need a machine to give you preset times or temps for anything so I can't see spending the extra dough on that. One of the main reasons why I choose this machine over the plethora of others is because of the way it looks. It's my favorite color (and probably yours, too) black. Black is just the perfect kitchen color because it makes food appear more appetizing and is very forgiving if you have any spots or smudges. I make it a policy to only buy everything for my kitchen in black because I like everything to be uniform, however I'm finding that at times it's getting more and more difficult to find black kitchen items. Besides KitchenAid (who knows the importance of kitchen unification) there doesn't seem to be too many other manufacturers that make things that either aren't white, yellow, stainless steel or some obscure color like bisque or eggshell (yuck!) So I was incredibly grateful that Krups made this toaster oven in black. Of course the unit is sleek and has a very contemporary design. I love the oversized handle in the front because besides being really nice to look at, it was put there to actually do something and serves a useful functionality. The coloring shade is perfect too because it's not a shiny black (the picture on this page is horrendous, BTW). It's more of the color of a KitchenAid matt-black mixer or hard-anodized cookware. This machine comes with a ton of accessories, which include: 2 reversible shelves, an all-purpose backing sheet, a broiling pan and a set of tongs. You can actually fit everything in it at once, but why would you want to? I only use 1 of the shelves and the baking sheet, everything else is stowed away with my other baking items. Of course it also comes with the standard crumb tray. When you first open the box don't get worried if you do not see all of these accessories inside the unit, together. Because they're all actually packaged inside a separate box, under the unit. I can't tell you how much I enjoy the convention feature on this toaster oven. I have used it nearly everyday since I first got it to make pizza, nachos, chicken wings and various other dishes for my household and everything comes out perfect. I couldn't believe how fast and crisp it made everything. The pizza actually was better the second time around. Keep in mind that when the convection fan is on the unit cooks faster and thus the temps and times have to be adjusted. Personally, I like everything very crisp (with those dark golden-brown bubbly oven marks) so I don't have to do too much adjusting. But in general you're going to want to lessen the cook time by about 30% and take off at least 25 to 50 degrees on the temp. I recently used my new Krups Toaster oven to bring over dinner for my brother-in-law and sister. They were just coming back from a lovely cruise and even though it was late at night I wanted to make sure they had a nice dinner. (I don't know about you, but it makes me ill how the airlines can keeping hiking the prices higher and higher while giving their passengers absolutely no food and abysmal service, but that's another topic.) Anyway, I made them breaded center-cut pork chops and they came out great (I included the recipe at the end of this review). They cooked in no time and the breading came out just like fried. Another reason why I use my oven so often is because it's so healthy. It's much more healthy than frying or sauteing and the taste is always just as good, if not much better. The only other kitchen appliance that I use as much (or nearly as much) is my George Foreman Grill and that's because it's another item that makes everything taste great while "knocking out the fat." If you're dieting or just trying to cut back then this toaster oven is for you because it's a really easy way to start eating healthier again. The unit also has many features that standard toaster ovens do not offer. Of course it has a clock, however this is something that most kitchens probably do not need. What I was happy about though is that the clock does not light up when the kitchen lights are off (I find that looks so tacky). The unit has large/oversized buttons and dedicated buttons for convection baking, broiling, defrosting, toasting and even conventional baking (because some items, like small baked breads do not cook as well with the convection setting). I also like the large start/stop button and I love how the control panel lights up like a microwave when everything is done and beeps 5 times (it's not too loud and it's not too soft, I'd describe the sound as "just right.") It also has progressive timing that counts down (in minute increments) on the display as it's working. Another feature that hasn't been discussed yet is the oversized oven capacity. This is one of those units that has a slightly extended inside-backing to allow long and odd-shaped items to fit nicely inside. I've seen other toasters ovens with this benefit, however they do not have any of the other features that Krups offers and they have been much more expensive. I also appreciate the large tempered glass window because it's oversized and allows for easy viewing from any angel. And the door also has 2 different positions. If you're just opening it and will close it again quickly, you can let it hang down naturally. Or if you want it to lay flat it has a locking mechanism, as well. The maintenance and cleanup for the toaster oven is a breeze. All of the accessories and pans are dishwasher safe (the book doesn't say it, but believe me they are). But to save on the extra cleanup, every time I use it, I line the baking sheet with foil and spray it with a touch of PAM . I can't tell you how useful this small step is. The outside and the inside of the unit are also completely nonstick, it doesn't develop those oily oil particles that other toaster ovens often do. Usually I just clean it with some Mr. Clean wipes after each use. And sometimes I use Easy-Off Glass Top Cleaner. Keep in mind never to use the tongs (or any metal utensils) to grab the baking sheet or broiling pan out with because it will scratch them. You can use the tongs to pull the cooking shelves out though. What I do to get food out is simply pull the shelves with the tongs and then use a plastic spatula to grab the food or I use the metal tongs, making sure they do not touch anything besides the food or the lined foil. (You can also use silicon tongs but you don't really need to.) Prior to using it for the first time I also recommend running the unit empty for 15 minutes on 450 degrees. It goes into more details about this in the booklet, but doing this helps to sanitize it. I also recommend washing all of the accessories, as well. By the way, there is hardly any noise when the unit is running and that includes when the convection mode is on. It's nearly whisper-quiet and much quieter than my prior toaster oven. Below is one of my favorite recipes to make in my new toaster oven. It was a recipe I found in one of my America's Test Kitchen cookbooks, but I reworked it a little to adjust the times for convention cooking and just to make it generally more easier (some ATK recipes can be very time-consuming and rather difficult). Crisp-Skin High-Roast Whole-Leg Chicken w/ Potatoes Brine: 1/4 salt 1/4 sugar 1 quart water Herb Butter: 2 tablespoons butter, softened salt & pepper Dried Thyme, Parsley & Chives Clove Garlic, minced Chicken/Potatoes: 4-5 whole-legs (drumsticks w/ thighs attached) 5 medium sized potatoes, pealed and sliced thin (about 1/4 inch each) 1-2 tablespoons EVOO Salt & Fresh Cracked Pepper Dried Parsley For the Brine - mix all ingredients in large container, add chicken once salt/sugar is dissolved. Refrigerate 1 hour. After hour, drain chicken, rinse under cold water, pat very dry with paper towels. For Herb Butter - in a medium bowl mix all ingredients together with rubber spatula. Roast Chicken/Potatoes: Rub Chicken with half tablespoon of olive oil, pepper and parsley. Apply Herb butter underneath the skin of all sections of chicken, using your fingers to remove the skin from the meat. Liberally spray both broiling pan & baking pan with PAM. Completely baking pan cover in aluminum foil, making sure there aren't any gaps, feel free to overlap with foil if there are any gaps. Spray foil very liberally with PAM. Toss Potatoes w/ 1 tablespoon of olive oil & salt & pepper. Spread baking pan with the potatoes in an even layer. Cover baking pan with the broiling pan on top of it. Put whole chicken inside broiling pan, keeping pieces as close together as possible. Convection Bake for 35 minutes @ 450 degrees. Chicken should have an internal temp of 160 degrees once done. Here's another one of my favorite recipes that's almost embarrassingly easy: Seasoned Chicken Thighs Package boneless/skinless chicken thighs (with any excess fat trimmed off) Packet wild rice seasoning Dip chicken thighs in seasoning on both sides, place in lined backing pan w/ foil and PAM, lightly sprayed. Convection Bake @ 375 degrees for 13-15 mins., turning halfway through. Convection Oven Pork Chop Recipe 4 to 6 Center-cut Pork Phops (boneless) 1 Egg 3/4 Cup Italian Bread Crumbs (or homemade bread crumbs) Dried Parsley & Chives Salt & Pepper Tobasco Sauce Spray baking sheet liberally with PAM. Line it with large piece of foil. If foil does not completely cover, spray foil and uncovered section and cover with more foil. When sheet is entirely covered with foil, spray with more PAM. Pat down chops with a paper towel. Sprinkle w/ salt, pepper & parsley on both sides of pork chops. Add dash of Tobasco and dried chives to egg. Beat. Add pork chops, 1 at a time to egg mixture. Then to bread crumbs, shaken off excess crumbs. Arrange each piece on baking sheet length wise. Convection Bake @ 325 degrees for 30 minutes, or until internal temp is 170. (There is no need to turn pork chops or rotate pan while it is cooking.) I hope you enjoy your Krups Toaster Oven as much as I enjoy mine. I am certain that any kitchen can find many uses for this because it's so versatile and makes so many tasks much quicker and easier.
