Product Description
DeLonghi 4-Slice Toaster

Amazon.com Review
As sleek and curvy as a 1950s car, DeLonghi's Metropolis four-slice toaster marries stylish retro looks with accurate, versatile functionality. Better still, this capacious model features dual controls for the right and left sides, so you can toast for different preferences simultaneously. The slots are wide enough to fit bagels, thickly sliced sourdough, and English muffins, and an extra-high lift lever raises small pieces to a safe grasping height. Self-adjusting bread grips center each slice for consistent results, while a smooth-turning dial adjusts the six browning settings. A defrost function thaws frozen bread before toasting it, and a bagel setting toasts the cut side of a bagel while simply warming its crust. A cancel button interrupts any setting immediately, and indicator lights help you double-check settings from across the room.

Made from durable metal, the toaster's housing is a handsome graphite color with shiny chrome accents. Helpful details include power cord storage, non-slip feet, and two dishwasher-safe crumb trays. A bit of a showpiece, the Metropolis looks good on the counter but, at 12 by 14 by 8-1/4 inches, it does have a substantial footprint. DeLonghi includes a one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard

5 out of 5 stars Retro Toaster   September 15, 2008

This is a cool looking toaster that works great. The oversized slots adapt from toast to bagels with ease. It's also turned out to be a conversation piece from guests. I have owned this toaster for 2 years now and will only write a review once item has proven itself. Reccommended.

3 out of 5 stars Gorgeous, but inconsistent   January 9, 2007

The DeLonghi toasters are the best looking on the market, but one side of one slot toasts darker than the rest, requiring manual intervention.

Nice looking but doesnt toast according to the settings. I have to stop for the desired toasting. Wouldn't reccomend it.

1st two I thought might be defective, but when the third one does the exact same thing, well you know its just poor workmanship. If you look at the coils in side only one side of all 4 slices gets hot, toast is VERY uneven and only toasts one side!

After eagerly awating this toaster, I opened it up, pushed down the toast levers to test it, and found it was defective.

There are four toast slots, thus eight sides which have heating elements. Of these eight sides, only two of the sides heated up completely and turned orange. Two other sides barely heated up, and the rest didn't heat up at all.

I called the DeLonghi service center and described the problem. They said the toaster was defective and had to be returned.

Apparently DeLonghi doesn't test these things before they ship them.
