Amazon.com Review
Looking like a chrome handbag from the 1940s, the DeLonghi Retro Belgian Waffle Maker is gorgeous and sleek. But the beauty is more than skin deep, because it is also a hard-working appliance. High-polished chrome with softer, brushed accents, the waffle maker will make a statement in any stylish kitchen. And in addition to the waffles for which it was ultimately designed, it can also be used for grilled sandwiches and other toasted and griddled delights. Two features highlight this versatility. First, an adjustable hinge offers two different height levels, so the lid can close tightly for waffles or remain more widely open for thick panini. Secondly, the WR25 comes with a set of reversible plates; each has a nonstick flat griddle side, as well as the traditional deep-pocket waffle forms.

To select the desired degree of browning, there's an adjustable thermostat dial. A green ready light illuminates when the griddle has reached the desired temperature, followed by 6 beeps announcing that the griddle plate's ready to receive the waffle batter. The green light will go off when the latch is closed and baking begins; when the two 4-by-4-1/2-inch waffles are ready, it will light back up, accompanied by three beeps. When cleaned and ready to put away, the snug safety latch allows for space-saving vertical storage.

To clean the metal casing, use only a warm, damp cloth; dry with a soft towel. Clean plates with a damp cloth and a nonabrasive cleanser; never use any sharp or pointed implements to scrape plates. Always unplug device before cleaning it. DeLonghi waffle makers are not immersible. The WR25 measures 10 by 10 by 5 inches, including handle and feet. DeLonghi guarantees its waffle irons with a limited one-year warranty. A list of DeLonghi service locations is included. --Garland Withers

5 out of 5 stars Review of DeLonghi Belgian Waffle Maker   January 11, 2007

My husband received this waffle maker from our children as a Christmas gift, and the entire family has enjoyed it. It not only makes great Belgian waffles, but it also makes great grilled sandwiches.

1 out of 5 stars Broke and Delonghi wouldn't replace   November 12, 2006

My wife and I got this waffle iron for Christmas, initially we loved it, but it broke after 11 months. Simply stopped heating. We called Delonghi and they had our registration card we'd sent in, but still would not honor the warranty because we did not have the receipt. It didn't matter that it was a gift. They told us the warranty only covers it from the time it was actually purchased and the person who gave it to us could have bought it months before Christmas. We tossed it in the dumpster and vowed never to buy anything by Delonghi again. If you insist on doing so, keep your receipt or get it from the giver if you get it as a gift. If you don't, you'll be sorry.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful waffles   November 4, 2006

This is the 3rd waffle maker we've had and by far the one I like the most. The waffles cook evenly and they don't stick. I like the ability to make waffles crispy or less so. Being able to take out the plates to wash them is very nice (although I would not put them in the dishwasher -- we did that with our last waffle maker and they rusted even with the nonstick coating). It stores upright, which is very nice and saves space. The only thing I don't like is that cord storage was not integrated into the design very well. The waffle plates make the wells in the waffles just the right size and depth.

Over all, I just love this waffle maker. I make up a good sized batch and place the waffles in a plastic zip lock bag with a paper towel between layers and put them in the fridge. Then we put them in the toaster so we can have quick homemade waffles during the week. We really like the Krusteaz Belgium Waffle mix and with real maple syrup, these are better than restaurant waffles! Really good, and I'm picky.

We got this waffle maker at Target for $19.99 when they were having a temporary price reduction. It's back up to $39.99 and I could kick myself for not getting a second one. I want to get my sister one for Christmas. Best $20 I've ever spent on a kitchen appliance.

Bought a rotissire from Delonghi and have been very pleased. We were looking for a waffle maker and found this one at Target for 10 dollars less. Had to try it and I must say we were all very pleased. Everyone came back for seconds and some thirds. We can all have our waffles the way we want, some soft, some very crispy. It's very helpful to know that a green light comes on when the iron is hot enough. It also has a nice chime to let you know when the waffle is done. We haven't tried the plates to make sandwiches yet. But again - yummy waffles!
