Amazon.com Review Looking like a chrome handbag from the 1940s, the DeLonghi Retro Belgian Waffle Maker is gorgeous and sleek. But the beauty is more than skin deep, because it is also a hard-working appliance. High-polished chrome with softer, brushed accents, the waffle maker will make a statement in any stylish kitchen. And in addition to the waffles for which it was ultimately designed, it can also be used for grilled sandwiches and other toasted and griddled delights. Two features highlight this versatility. First, an adjustable hinge offers two different height levels, so the lid can close tightly for waffles or remain more widely open for thick panini. Secondly, the WR45 comes with a set of reversible plates; each has a nonstick flat griddle side, as well as the traditional deep-pocket waffle forms. To select the desired degree of browning, there's an adjustable thermostat dial. A green ready light illuminates when the griddle has reached the desired temperature, followed by 6 beeps announcing that the griddle plate's ready to receive the waffle batter. The green light will go off when the latch is closed and baking begins; when the four 3-1/2-by-5-inch waffles are ready, it will light back up, accompanied by three beeps. When cleaned and ready to put away, the snug safety latch allows for space-saving vertical storage. To clean the metal casing, use only a warm, damp cloth; dry with a soft towel. Clean plates with a damp cloth and a nonabrasive cleanser--never use any sharp or pointed implements to scrape plates. Always unplug device before cleaning it. DeLonghi waffle makers are not immersible. The WR25 measures 12 by 13 by 5 inches, including handle and feet. DeLonghi guarantees its waffle irons with a limited one-year warranty. A list of DeLonghi service locations is included. --Garland Withers

Very nice, easy to use, and worth the price March 26, 2005 T. Reinhardt (east coast) I have had this waffle maker for about 8 months and am very happy with it. I LOVE that the plates come out for easy cleaning and that there are both waffle and flat plates. It makes beautiful, large waffles altho I dont find the timing function all that helpful. I will check the waffles when the timer sounds but frequently I leave them in a bit more. There is also sometimes a bit of uneven cooking but I have found that on every small appliance/grill I have ever owned. The flat plates that come with it work great for grilled sandwiches and they come out so good its almost worth purchasing it for that alone. Even though it is non stick I have found I do need a coating of vegetable oil. You really cant use PAM as over time it will leave a gummy residue on non-stick surfaces (all non-stick surfaces not just this one). Butter can also be used but I find a small amount of oil on a paper towel works for me. I have also found in the past that when the waffles are *done* they release the easiest... the more done the waffle, the less sticking. I have had no problem on the flat side... It is a large unit by design and could be hard to store in a small kitchen. I keep mine on top of the fridge standing up. Despite any glitches, I love this unit.
Just for show January 9, 2005 John L (USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This waffle maker is made to be seen not used. While the features are impressive, removable trays for waffles and flat trays for sandwiches, temperature control, beeping alarm, vertical storage option and an on/off switch. It's also reasonably priced with above average looks, that's the good. Here's the bad the beeping alarm is hardly audible it can hardly be heard in a quite house let alone a kitchen with something frying.. While making waffles cooking is uneven and frequently results in the waffles sticking to the top and bottom when the iron is opened unless liberal amounts of oil are used. They elected to use a low grade non-stick surface. Even on the highest setting the waffles come out uneven while lower setting result in uncooked mix. They are also just slightly thicker than the store bought toaster waffles.
