5 out of 5 stars great lightweight, portable heater   October 26, 2007

I bought this heater last winter for use in a medium-sized bedroom. The room heated up very well although would cool quite quickly once the heater was turned off. It has a couple of great features:

1. You can set the heater to switch itself on and off so that the room neither gets too cold, nor to hot. (I use this feature at night so that I don't wake up sweltering - it probably saves electricity too). Auto freeze setting is supposed to switch heater on at 44 degrees but I find it switches it on at around 60 degrees.

2. It has a safety device which I discovered by accident - on two occasions a piece of clothing fell on the heater and covered it. The heater cut the heat off to prevent the unit from becoming over-heated and potentially dangerous.

We just moved to a much bigger apartment so I'm buying 2 more of these, despite the fact that this great heater is very lightweight and easy to carry from room to room.

I'd also recommeend this product to be used under a desk at work.

3 out of 5 stars It works...   March 28, 2007

In very small spaces. Don't expect it to heat up your entire room though.

First of all, let me start by clearing up a major misconseption. There is no such thing as an MORE efficient heater!!! All heaters are 100% efficient at what they do; produce heat. The laws of thermodynamics guarantee this. If someone tells you any different they are either lying or never took physics 101. The only exception to this rule are big and bulky heat pumps (AC units that work in reverse). Also halogen heaters require less energy (about 50%) when used as a personel heater since they radiate infrared energy directly onto the individual rather then only heating the room air like convection heaters. However for heating a whole room, halogens are no more efficient than any other heater.

I was looking for an all metal heater that is quiet and does not use a ceramic element (I hate ceramic heaters since they always fail in a couple of years) and this was the only game in town. The whole unit reeks of quality and is indeed quiet. This is the first heater I've come across that comes with a good solid power cord; the failure of which is the number one cause of heater fires.

Many people may feel that this heater does not produce enough heat. However the laws of physics will guarantee that it generates the same amount of heat as any other 1500 Watt heater. The issue here is how the heat is distributed. It will not provide a concentrated blast of hot air like a small ceramic heater would. This is not a good idea anyways since such a design is far more likely to incinerate neighboring items. Instead, the heater gives off a much more diffused heat pattern. So if you are looking for a heater to warm your feet with a blast of hot air this unit will not do that nearly as well as a ceramic model.

1 out of 5 stars Nice Heater If you Want To Heat, I Mean Warm Up Your Closet   February 10, 2007

You can only feel the heat when you are about a foot away, otherwise you dont even notice a heater around. The fan, if you even want to call that, hhmmm. I think you get more power from a hand held battery operated fan. I give a 10 for the look, but its just plain useless. Lucky It has safety features because I didnt even notice it was on for a few days until I saw the red light on the back (power indicator). Look somewhere else if you are looking for a heater.
