two winters and still working fine May 20, 2007 K. Kohl (SF Bay Area) I've had this unit as a space heater for smaller rooms for two winters now, and it's doing just fine. I find its R2D2 looks appealing and it always brings a smile to my face when I unbox this heater in the late fall for another round of winter. The thermostat seems to work fine and I don't notice any off-gassing. It's not a powerhouse, but it will keep your feet plenty warm while you're at the computer writing reviews on products when you should be off doing other things :)
Just OK quality March 9, 2007 Bruce W. Bonner (Philadelphia, USA) This is an OK heater . . . designed for looks not functionality. The all silver exterior looks like stainless, but is actually just cheap plastic. The heater sounds like a jet engine when starting up, but quickly quiets down and heats reasonably well. It does have a thermostat which is a major plus over many units on the market - but so do many of the old fashion metal exterior cube units that you can buy on e-bay for $15.00. If form over function is your goal - this unit will do fine.
Good heater, retro a joke December 8, 2006 E. Byers (San Diego, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As a heater this does a pretty good job. It's your typical small ceramic heater. On high it seems to heat up my room decently, and the thermostat seems to work pretty well also. The whole retro looking thing kind of falls short. It ends up looking like a mini r2d2, or a little mailbox. Plus most of it is done in plastic. Basically it ends up trying too hard. It's a good heater, but unless you completely love the style, I'd probably look for a cheaper alternative.
Cute as a button but cute doesn't keep you warm. December 6, 2006 Melissa Castellano (Los Angeles, CA) This is a very, very, very adorable little design for a heater--but oh if only it actually heated something. I've tested it for three days now and the only way I can get this thing to warm up my room is by leaving it on all day blasting at full-speed--and that's not notably effectual being that's in a small 10X12 room. I'd reccomend buying something a little less attractive and a little more practical. OH and the plastic off-gasses alot and it started to make an annoying clicking sound. The thermostat is also a big whooping joke as it serves no purpose, other than another aesthetic gimmick.
Rather powerful, light years above competition in appearance October 28, 2005 Drake-by-the-Lake (State of Euphoria) 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
I checked out the small ceramic space heaters being offered by Home Depot prior to settling on the RCH150. They WERE cheaper. Let us just say, they left something to be desired in the looks department. Pros: 1. Very attractive. Form as well as function. 2. Very powerful. The "Min" setting is quite sufficient. You will most likely not need to resort to "Max." 3. You get heat from the first minute. FAST! Of course, this is a known feature of most ceramic heaters that have fans built-in, and is not some specialty of this model. 4. If MIN really is what the box says it is (800 watts), then this baby may be an energy saver...like other ceramic heaters. Cons: 1. The unit, and even the manual, never tells you what wattage "low" and "high" are. Finally, I found out by looking at the box, after digging it out of the trash can. I do not care to be told "Min" and "Max". Just tell me the freakin' wattage. For those of you who are interested - I notice the product description does not even reveal wattage (unforgivable!) - MIN is 800 watts; MAX is 1500 watts. 2. Tip this baby over, it keeps churning out heat. No tip over protection safety feature. Yes, I tested it. There is an "overheat" protection feature, according to the manual, but I did not really feel like testing that one. 3. The price is higher than the el cheapo Home Depot models. But, based on the qualities I noted above, maybe it is worth it. At least DeLonghi takes a little bit of pride in their product, instead of slapping a heating element in any old ugly box, like the major players such as Honeywell, etc. who ought to be ashamed of themselves.
