Even occasional bakers will wonder how they ever got along without a stand mixer once they splurge on this 5-quart model. The mixer has a high-quality sleek white-and-silver diecast aluminum construction and a heavy-duty 705-watt motor for long-lasting wear. Six speeds plus a pulse button give bakers the ultimate control, so dishes turn out perfectly mixed every time. The stand mixer maintains its power and speed on the chosen setting regardless of how much dough or batter is in the stainless-steel mixing bowl, and the beater moves in what Delonghi describes as a "planetary" motion for more thorough mixing without leaving unstirred flour on the sides or bottom of the bowl. A transparent splash guard keeps batter in the bowl and off of countertops, but also lets you monitor mixing results and add ingredients through a side hatch. Three attachments are included with the mixer: a stainless-steel whisk for whipping mousses or egg whites for soufflés or meringues; a nonstick dough hook for quicker kneading of bread and pastry doughs than is possible by hand; and a nonstick flat beater for mixing cake or cookie batter in record time. Four other concealed power outlets can run up to 12 other attachments, from a meat grinder to a pasta maker (sold separately). The mixer's head tilts upward for easy removal of the bowl or to change the attachment. To keep itself in working order, the unit has an overload protection device and shuts itself down if ingredients exceed the recommended bowl capacity. As an added bonus, this stand mixer comes with a mini food chopper and four lidded glass storage jars for prepping and storing baking ingredients in advance. Delonghi warranties the motor on this stand mixer for 10 years. --Cristina Vaamonde

Product Description
Delonghi 705 watt Stand Mixer with mini food processor and chopper - With quality, durability and reliability, this Italian-designed 5-qt. mixer is made for the demands of a professional chef and ideal for the busy home chef. Equipped with a powerful 705-watt motor, it's strong enough to knead yeast dough yet gentle enough to whisk a single egg. One distinguishing feature of the DeLonghi mixer is its unique mixing action whereby the beaters rotate in one direction while the beater socket rotates in another. The result is a thorough and perfect mixing each time. Included with the mixer is the flat beater for mixing batters and reducing beating time, the whisk tool for gently whisking eggs, creams and batter, the dough tool for easily kneading and mixing breads, and a Bonus Mini Food Processor and Chopper with four airtight jars. The stainless bowl has a detachable splash guard, perfect when adding flour or liquids. For changing the beaters or removing the bowl, an easy-turn mechanism lets you to lift the head of the mixer with minimal effort. An overload protection device keeps the mixer from overheating.

1 out of 5 stars $400 Down the Drain   January 17, 2007

I did quite a bit of research on stand mixers. Because the new Kitchen Aid was having problems and I wanted a 7 Quart mixer, I chose Delonghi.

After three months of moderate use, the attachments started falling out during mixing. I called Delonghi to find out where to bring my mixer for repair and they gave me the name of a Delonghi repair store about 30 minutes away. I dropped off the mixer and was notified by the store owner a week later that they could not figure out what was wrong and they could not repair it. I brought the mixer home and contacted Customer Service again. She said that I would have to ship the mixer to the next closest repair place, which is California, and pay for shipping. I asked her if the first place they recommended wasn't able to fix it, how would I know if it was worth sending it to California if I was going to get the same result. She said that I really didn't have a choice. NICE! The mixer was less than a year old when it broke. They will not replace it with a new one or insure me that their repair centers can actually fix it. How frustrating when you spend that kind of money on a namebrand like Delonghi - you would expect a great product and great service - that's definitely not the case. I have no choice but to send it to CA and hope for the best. I'll keep you posted.

5 out of 5 stars Powerful, versatile, compact   October 19, 2005

Don't assume KitchenAid is the only player in countertop mixers. This machine is well built (very solid) and powerful enough to make any kind of bread dough I can come up with. A range of accessories are available. The lowest speed is nice and slow, the highest speed nice and fast. It's more attractive than the KitchenAid machines. And its clever design (motor in the back, not the top) means it fits under counters and storage areas where a KitchenAid can't hope to fit. Nice machine; I'm very plased with mine.

5 out of 5 stars Powerful mixer for the price   February 19, 2005

This is the first stand mixer I've ever owned, so I have no experience whatsoever with Kitchen Aid or another other brand. However, when Amazon ran this on sale for $149, with no tax or shipping, I went for it. In the six months I've used it, I've been nothing but impressed. It's easy to use, all removable parts go in the dishwasher, the design is functional and clean so it looks good on my counter, and at 700 watts, the motor has got to be as strong as I'll ever need. One last caveat, though: I've not yet used it to make bread dough.

3 out of 5 stars The first one GREAT, Second one, no so much   October 21, 2004

I bake bread, a lot of bread, so I have five stand mixers. I have a 6 qt Kitchen aid, a 5 qt kitchen aid, a 5 qt Kenwood (Identical to the Delonghi) and I bought this Delonghi. (Ok I am addicted to kitchen stuff). It is a wonderful mixer, well designed, easy to use, and easy to clean. The first one (the Kenwood branded mixer) has been great going on 7 years. The second one lasted 1/2 an hour. I was making bread in my brand new mixer and the motor died, got very hot first and then DIED. Lest you think it was a heavy dough, I took the bowl and dough hook, put it on the Kenwood, and finished the bread with no problems. Delonghi was less then helpful, wanting I should drive it 40 miles to the repair center. Oh Well. Still love the Kenwood, I recommend the mixer design highly. I just hope it was a rare and isolated issue with quality.

5 out of 5 stars Very powerful!   October 14, 2004

I purchased this several months ago, and love it! It's much more powerful than any other mixer I've used. The power settings go up to 6 and I've never had to turn it past level 2, and that was for bread dough! The deal was great, I bought it during a Friday Sale and used the 20 dollar promo, paying around 150 in the end. DeLonghi has come out with a newer, sleeker version in brushed stainless steel which is gorgeous, and is in the Chef's Catalog. For the bargain, though, I'm just as happy with this purchase. I bought the DeLonghi as a replacement for my Oster Kitchen Center, which I've used for the last 20 years. I hope I'll have just as long life from this one. I'm planning to purchase the slicer attachment to complete the purchase.
