3 out of 5 stars Delonghi Coffee Maker   June 22, 2008
BRDPJ (Phoenix, Az)
THis makes better coffee than most coffee makers but is somewhat messy, especially if the grounds flow over which has happened many times to me. The coffee also spills when poured from the carafe if you are not very careful.

2 out of 5 stars Mixed review   May 31, 2008
Colorado JT x 2 (Peoria, Az)
My DeLonghi DCM 485 worked well for a year and a half, although the comments on the lid are pretty much spot on. The other day, the lid protrusion where you turn the lid broke, rendering the lid totally inoperable, so same with the coffee maker. It made pretty decent coffee and I like the carafe feature. We will see if DeLonghi or Starbucks makes good on this.

2 out of 5 stars Beautiful, but seriously flawed   April 12, 2008
P. F. Lewis (Mile High City)
I bought this a couple years ago because it is so beautiful. It classes up any kitchen.

Within a week, I had my first overflow - a huge mess all over the counter and floor. I figured I must have done something wrong. Sure enough, I hadn't put the carafe in far enough to completely open the pour-while-brewing valve. I took great care for the next couple weeks. Then another overflow. What a mess. Then another and another. I finally figured out that they just engineered the guts of the coffee basket very badly. I finally completely removed the pour-while-brewing valve from the coffee basket, which at least stopped the overflows.

The carafe spills if you don't pour VERY slowly, but it keeps the coffee drinkably warm for a couple hours. I always had to have the manual at hand for setting the clock and autostart, even though I am pretty techie. There's nothing intuitive about it. There is no power backup on this, so it needs to be reset for even a momentary power loss.

Mine finally died last week (yay!), so I bought a new coffee maker. It isn't quite as pretty, but I learned the hard way from this coffee maker that looks aren't everything.

3 out of 5 stars Not Hot   April 12, 2008
D. Harmon (NE Montana)
Always, Amazon sends out their products swiftly which we appreciate. The coffee maker is attractive and easy to use. If one wants coffee that is not bitter, use a filter along with the one that comes with the machine. Our only complaint is it does not make the coffee hot enough. We still have to put our cup in the microwave to bring the temperature up. We would love to find a machine that makes HOT coffee.

4 out of 5 stars Makes Great Coffee   March 25, 2008
W. Martins (Gainesville, Florida)
It makes a great cup of coffee which is, after all, its purpose in being. The pot design is great, once you get the hang of it and it keeps coffee hotter than most for longer. The only thing that prevents a fifth star is the buttons that work the thing. They stick with regularity causing various problems and the clock is just impossible to deal with. We use none of it except to push a button once or twice, maybe three times to get the coffee going. We put up with it because it does a good job of making coffee.
