1 out of 5 stars The worst coffee-maker ever?   January 3, 2005

If you fancy starting every day cursing and wiping up a big mess of coffee this is the machine for you. I can only assume that the DeLonghi people designed the whole thing and shipped it to stores without ever bothering to make a pot of coffee with it. There are so many faults it's hard to know where to start: The narrow water reservoir is hard to fill and you will likely dump water all over the place trying to fill it. When the coffee is brewing quite a bit of it won't end up in the carafe so that's a nice brown mess to clean up under the carafe and coffee maker. The carafe itself doesn't pour well so don't try using it anywhere that will stain- like on a table with a tablecloth, for example. And when the machine clogs with coffee grains (it will) be extra careful opening it as the spring-loaded filter holder tends to pop open with a dramatic spray of hot, wet coffee grounds. If you are looking for a 'gift' for your worst enemy this might be what you are looking for, otherwise avoid, avoid, avoid.

3 out of 5 stars Great coffee, built to break   October 5, 2003

This coffee maker (used also by the Soprano's) makes great coffee, the carafe keeps it hot but doesn't burn it. However, the button that opens the "swing away" filter basket seems to be built to break. We have gone through two of these. The last one lasted just over a year.
