this has broken down in just a few weeks after purchase October 2, 2008 Gregg Mayer The DeLonghi E!1251 oven/toaster is lovely and I love it but it never works for long. I've been through two, the last one having broken down today, one month after purchase. It just shuts down, no explanation. And I can't find anyone here in Manhattan who can repair it. Why should it do this? I buy it and then I toast and bake and enjoy it and then - whoosh! It stops working. Any suggestions? Can I get a refund, or at least someone to help pay for the repair? By accident, you guys sent me two last month and I returned the second, unused one. I was going to keep it, figuring this would happen but I didn't want to spook it so I sent it back. HELP!!!!
Looks and works great! June 17, 2008 H. Macksoud (Princeton, NJ United States) I've had this toaster for over 2 years and it works great -- toasts evenly unlike my previous Cuisinart model -- and heats up quickly.
Buyer Beware! May 24, 2008 Catherine Hemerlein (Little Compton, RI) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We too bought a DeLonghi toaster oven and thought it was great for a couple of months. Problem is that it doesn't shut off and is a very serious fire hazard. Needless to say, am back to my trusty toastmaster toaster which is very basic, but safe!!
Nice toaster, died after 23 months February 14, 2008 M. Desimone (Arizona) it was nice while it worked, toasted well enough, cooked chicken, corn bread, pizza muffins, etc. mysteriously gave up the ghost (but fortunately had cooked the chicken just enough that it didn't ruin dinner). We don't overuse our appliances, so 23 months is disappointing. Bought a Cuisinart replacement today that has a 3 yr warranty, so hopefully that'll work longer.
Broke after 2 years December 16, 2007 J. Ceely 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this as a replacement to our Black and Decker toaster oven. I liked the design, and the fact that it was larger and could be used for a variety of baking tasks. The unit is good looking and arrived in great shape. The first thing we noticed is that the "non-stick" is a treated metal and not the teflon type non stick that I expected. In everyday use the unit is very hot, and the plastic handle has a metal reinforcement that also gets hot. So after a couple of burns to the hand, we learned to either use an oven mitt or a set of tongs to open the unit if it's been on for a while. The controls are easy to understand and worked well. The timer is mechanical and has the "tick tick tick" like an egg timer. This was a little annoying and there is a loud bell that rings when the cook cycle is finished. I no longer used the oven for late night snacks due to the loud ring. The unit and crumb pull-out tray clean up easily, the "non-stick" pans cleaned up after a soak and a scrub, without too much trouble. We primarily used the oven to toast bread& bagels, with the occasional melted cheese and crackers. The unit never toasted bread evenly on both sides. One side is perfect and the other is uneven with a lightly crisp to burnt toast over the width of the slice. It does not "ensure perfectly prepared toast every time". I really don't understand why they can't make a toaster that actually works! The unit stopped working after a little less than 2 years. The manufacturer would not take the unit in for repairs and said to seek out a local small appliance repair company. These really don't exist that I could find, so I now have a $150 paper weight. I don't recommend this product.
