5 out of 5 stars Excellent machine for the price. No more Starbucks!   December 21, 2007

Overall i am very happy with this product.

It is well built. Produces great coffee, Looks very nice on the counter and very easy to use & maintain.

The espresso from this machine is excellent. It is very rich & consistent and I love the Creama it produces. It comes with two containers - one for 1 cup and the other for 2 cups. The water tank is pretty easy to remove & fill. If you want , there is a opening on the top to pour water in so you don't have to remove the tank. Also you can easily see the water level on the side. The machine is also pretty quiet compared to some of the other espresso machines i have tried. There is a drip tray at the bottom which just slides out and is very easy to clean.

Also I did not notice any problems with the knob as mentioned in the other review. It works pretty smoothly

A great value for the money !

First, I just want to say right off the bat because of another review, that this is a very solid machine. I guess every now and then anyone can get any product that has a flaw in it. Not the case in my machine.

This could not be any easier to use either! I love Cappuccino, but have never made one or even knew the most basic thing about brewing a cup of it. My first try was better than anything I've ever got a Starbucks! Then I got "Cappuccino Cocktails, specialty coffee recipes and a whole latte more" Only $4.50 used here. Great book, lots of recipes and history of coffee and bunch of other cool stuff. Great recipes, every cup keeps getting better!

I know people that have steam and other pump cappuccino machines. They say that this blows theirs away. I'm Told the operation of use was easier and better features too. Every cup is the same, it makes very a consistent espresso, which is a sign of a very good machine.

I looked online for a long time to find a good machine. Every store gave Briel great reviews, and many books recommended Briel
as a excellent machine for the price. Most compared it to machines twice its price.

My only complaint about the Cappuccino I make is that I'm getting fat! lol

I might have a "bias" being Portuguese and absolutely being proud of it and this product. I just received this machine and I have used. It is a great machine.

I am comparing it to a Braun machine that I have had for a couple of months. Right off, the bat the first cup from the Briel machine is much creamier than the other machine.

The removable water tank feature is great - just fill it in and watch the level when you need to refill it... It also has a removable drip tray that is very easy to clean and catches any overflow of coffee.

This machine comes with a measuring spoon, which has a spot in the machine to store it so that it is out of the way. There is also the convenience of making either 1 or 2 cups of coffee in one shot - the machine comes with the two different measurements.

The top of the machine is also a cup warmer - which by itself is a great feature in this price range. The 15 bar pump pressure is great compared to the ordinary 4-8 on the lower end machines...

The versatility of either using ground coffee or ESE pods is a very good feature. If you are uncomfortable or intimidated by using ground coffee - this machine allows you to use the ESE pods.

So far I am very impress with the end result.

1 out of 5 stars Sent it back...steam knob flimsy   December 27, 2005

Like most of you, I performed due diligence and did the research attempting to find value at the right price point. I landed on the Versatile Uno, and checked the Briel website to make sure it was current and supported. I bought the gift for my Mom for Christmas. It had to be simple to use and safe. After she opened it, we set it up for use and the steam control knob came off in my hand. It wasn't broken per se, just a bad design. Perhaps previous product iterations resulted in too-many ham-handed customers twisting the knob open or shut too far, so this plastic knob had a set of sloped interlocking tabs that mated with an interior piece. It was lightly greased and designed to ride up off the interior piece if over-torqued. Unfortuantely, the design also depends on the shaft being absolutely centered in the hole in the case and being perfectly horizontal. That doesn't happen with snap-together parts, so basically the knob quickly works loose. Since this knob controls steaming, that's not a good thing! The user is required to constantly press the knob back into the body of the machine in order for it to work correctly. I decided...hey, too unsafe, too much user intervention, a constant reminder that this gift was flimsy, etc. Look elsewhere. I bit the bullet and sprang for the Starbucks Barista machine...solid, heavy, two-year warranty, and 800# support and return to local Starbucks for exchange. That's perfect for a gift item for Mom.
