2 out of 5 stars Bad, expensive service   February 22, 2010

You would think after paying this much money for a coffee center, one would be able to write with pride about good service from the manufacturer. Unfortunately, this is not the case. A simple hinge stopped working on one of the doors, and the Jura-Carpesso people want $300 to fix it! I had been a long time customer of this company and had purchased two other units in the past. They too often break after a short time and repairs are outlandishly expensive.

I'd look elsewhere in the future

1 out of 5 stars Complete waste of money...   January 25, 2010

This machine has given us problems almost since day one. We've owned it about three years, don't make more than a dozen cups a week, and we've suffered through too many frustrations due to its many high-maintenance issues. Error messages abound. And don't think we haven't babied our investment. Nothing but bottled spring water has ever been used in this machine, and we've been super vigilant about the oiliness of the beans. Jura has been little help resolving our problems. Just try reaching your hand up inside to clean the trap as they suggest! You have to be a contortionist, and have hands the size of a child's!

Yes, it's easy to use, when it works. It does use a lot - and I do mean a lot - of water. Using spring water will cost you. And you should also know that while this machine makes a better cup of coffee than most of the cheaper machines we've tried, it doesn't compare to cafe coffee at all, so set your expectations accordingly.

For the price, I expected it to last longer than three years! We will not buy another coffee maker from this company.

MUST READ.... What a BIG expense but such a GREAT purchase!!!! I am so happy we bought the Jura Z5. A must do is..... read the instructions. I suspect a lot of the errors and issues folks are having in the other reviews on this site may be due to misuse. The machine is not complicated but is obviously high tech and not like your run of the mill $199 coffee machine. We bought this machine after extensive research and visiting many stores. I am a shopper and look for the best deals and the best product. I probably would not have purchased this model if it were not my husband. It has all the bells and whistles so if you want a little less flash and the same function go with the S9. There is a comparison chart of the Jura machines on their website. I have owned a Cappresso for many years and was leaning towards the DeLonghi after reading reviews and functionality.

After visiting the stores and seeing them in action, the Jura won hands down. The Delonghi frothier seemed to come lose after use and the machine had problems recognizing the milk container. The Jura is a thermos like container and can sit on your counter for several hours in the morning without getting warm. It also fits a lot better in the fridge door. Another nice feature, that some of the cheaper machines do not have is that you can use two kinds of coffee - beans or grounds at the same time. This came in handy the other evening when a guest of ours wanted decaf but we had regular beans in the machine. You just scope in the grounds you want and presto...different kind of coffee without removing all the beans.

One more thing...don't forget this makes hot chocolate and hot water for tea!!!!

The quality of this product is incredible. I am so impressed with how solid the machine is built and the parts seem very durable. It is not complicated at all to use...but remember.. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING. This is a big purchase but well worth the cafe quality beverages. If you live by a Costco, you may want to buy beans in bulk. We do notice we drink much more coffee :-) Also if you like flavored drinks, try buying the starbucks syrup and making your own latte at home for MUCH less. Hope you enjoy this as much as my husband and I do.

2 out of 5 stars Reliability Issues   October 3, 2009

Great when it works. Unfortunately, that's not all the time. My first one had an internal leak right out of the box. My second one got past that, but often jams when retracting its grounds ejector and does not flow the coffee well.

5 out of 5 stars Great service from Jura Capresso   July 22, 2009

I have owned this machine for 1 year and use it every day. Quality and convenience is superior. I encountered a problem this month - steam could not be created for the frothed drinks. I contacted Capresso, they sent a pre-paid UPS sticker and, reluctantly I sent my machine in for repair. Using our old drip machine was horrid! Coffee tasted terrible and I did sneak over to the local Starbucks on a few days.
Fortunately, I only had to endure 4 days of bad coffee. Got it to the local UPS store at 4:30 pm on a Wednesday and it was back to me on Monday morning. Wow, I could not believe that the UPS man was actually delivering the machine when he did. They replaced the steam unit and, preventative, the brewing unit.
Overall, fabulous macine with fabulous coffee. Excellent service from the company when a repair was needed.
