5 out of 5 stars Fast, easy, excellent.   June 7, 2008

I'm 100% satisfied with this wonderful little machine. It has a very small footprint so it doesn't take up a lot of counter space, it has very design, it's incredibly easy to use and clean, and makes consistently perfect espresso.

Since this is a completely automated machine and you are limited to using the coffee pods sold by Nespresso, this may not be the choice for espresso enthusiast who are willing to invest large amounts of time and money into the craft of making espresso with an authentic manual machine. But for those of us who just want a good cup of espresso and fast and painlessly as possible, the Essenza is a dream come true.

Other's have complained that $.50 is too much to spend on a single espresso, and that may be true if you are only taking into consideration the amount of coffee used. It's true if you buy a $10 - $12 pound of gourmet coffee you'll get a lot more that ~20 cups of espresso, but you'll also be spending a lot more time preparing your coffee and cleaning/maintaining your machine. For me, I'd rather pay $.50 a cup so I can spend my time doing other things. I'd also like to point out that a quality manual espresso machine is going to cost you a lot more than $230. I have friends who are fanatical about their espresso and have spent thousands on proper, coffeehouse-quality espresso machines.

5 out of 5 stars Good espresso for dummies   May 11, 2008

I bought this after a friend of mine served me a cup and it blew my mind. It makes a great tasting, foamy espresso/lungo every single time! It never has burned or bitter flavor.

I bought the milk steamer/frother combo and am glad I bought the combo. The milk frother makes great froth and is very easy to clean as it is virtually a jug that you can clean under running water vs. regular espresso machine's steamer cleaning.

I can see why this may not seem too economical considering the price of the pods, but I can honestly say it's saved me some serious money as I stopped my daily (sometimes twice a day) stop at Starbucks. I love the fact that I can just get up in the morning and make a great cup of espresso - no need to take a shower, get dressed, and drive out to the Starbucks. I also think it tastes better than Starbucks or other specialty stores' coffee.

I did experience some problems at first for about 2 weeks where lungo didn't make lungo amount. I was about to take it back to Williams Sonomas (I bought it there because of their return policy) but somehow it started working fine again. I am a little scared and wonder if it is going to be a problem again in the future, but we will see.

I also noticed a couple of times more than usual amount of coffee grind in my coffee. I don't know if it was my mistake or what but it was weird to see grind floating on top. It only happened a couple of times though. (I drink about 3 cups a day)

I don't think the noise is bad at all.

I also liked the price of C100T but if I were to buy it again, I may consider more expensive model, only because C100 only takes a very short cup. I only have 2 cups that size in my house.

This machine is so easy my 10-year-old can make a great cup!

5 out of 5 stars GOOD BYE STARBUCKS!   May 2, 2008

I've only had my espresso machine for about 3 weeks now and I love it. I work a lot and keep odd hours. I was making up to 2 trips a day to Starbucks. After paying $3.85 a pop for my Venti Mocha for years, and being treated rudely by one of the "baristas" at that company on a resent visit, I decided to purchase this espresso maker. I LOVE IT!! It makes my drink taste better then Starbucks ever did. This puppy will pay for itself in about 4 months sense I no longer have to go out for my espresso drink. It's simple to use and easy to keep clean. I'm one happy camper.

5 out of 5 stars So Good, I Would've Paid More   April 29, 2008

On our last trip to Europe, my wife and I found one of these little machines sitting in our hotel in Munich. I'm a total coffee addict, and I'm always pleased to find a coffee machine in the room - it means I don't have to hit the streets of a foreign city shortly after waking up (in a very groggy state), just to get my fix.

Well, I was intrigued. No instructions were given, so I filled up the water tank, flipped the swtich, popped in a capsule, put a cup below the spout and hit the button. MAN, what a delicious cup of espresso! The crema was a full half-inch high! Rich, full-bodied, and not at all bitter. I tried each of the complimentary capsules that the hotel provided, and all were stellar.

I was pricing these machines on Amazon and reading the reviews, during our second night in that hotel room. The cleaning service had replaced the capsules I used. I thought I had died and gone to coffee heaven.

I knew the drawbacks. The machine is a bit pricey, but what's quality worth to you? Capsules are only available from Nespresso and are not refillable. Years ago, I looked into Senseo and Keurig, and I believe their own refillable options have garnered mixed reviews. As a die-hard Apple Mac user, I'm familiar and comfortable with companies who want to control the whole user experience - the experiences are usually superior.

After our trip, I pretty much forgot about it. The next weekend, though, I saw a cousin who had lived in Europe for about 15 years. She told me she had just gotten this very Nespresso model, and the delicious coffee brought tears to her eyes. I could barely contain myself, as I described to her my experiences with it in Munich. That clinched the deal. I NEEDED this machine now.

I've been all over Europe, and I doubt you'll find a better espresso outside of Italy. It really is that good. 19 bars of pressure is 275lbs per square inch. I'm convinced that this is this machine's secret.

Know the drawbacks - you'll be ordering your capsules from Nespresso for as long as you use this machine. It's easy and shipping is quick. Just be sure to plan ahead. There's not a huge variety available, but there's plenty for someone like me.

As another reviewer said, the coffee comes out piping hot, but it will cool quickly if it hits a cold cup. Invest in Bodum insulated glass cups or tumblers. Problem solved.

I wouldn't have believed the hype, if I hadn't tried it myself in Munich. But after trying it, I would've paid more.

1 out of 5 stars Pump broke after 3 months   March 1, 2008

I bought mine in November after reading the reviews on Consumer Report. The Espresso is expensive but pretty good. My problem is with the reliability of the unit and the bad customer service that Nespresso provides. I initially called them, the CSR took all my information, tried to do some troubleshooting and then said that a Technician will be calling me to send me a replacement and schedule repair of my unit. 10 days later no one called so I called again; the CSR could see all my info and apologized that the Tech did not call but still she said that she needs to troubleshoot the machine again before having a tech call. I told her that was ridiculous. She said because her name will be on the work order she has to trouble shoot the machine again. I asked to talk to her manager; she said he is out of his desk but he will call me within the hour. The manager never called! I will call again and this time I am going to ask for my money back.
