4 out of 5 stars Good little machine.   August 7, 2008
Mario F. Sangines
Unlike other reviewers who seem to be highly experienced espresso experts, this was my first espresso machine and it managed to make excellent coffee even in my clumsy, technologically-challenged hands. Some of the things I like most: (i) easy to load and unload the ground coffee; (ii) works reliably; and (iii) makes a mean cup of really creamy espresso. I have not yet mastered the milk frothing wand, but I'm sure that after watching the included DVD it will be a no-brainer. The only thing I don't like is the "coffee pod" system. Although it may not be this machine's fault, the pod system makes crummy coffee, which I unfortunately learned after dishing out $15 for a box of Illy pods. So, if you want to make espresso the old fashioned way, this is quite a nifty little gadget at a very reasonable price.

5 out of 5 stars Great Machine for Beginners   July 20, 2008
K. Harter (Reston, VA)
I like to drink a latte daily, but at nearly $4 a pop it was getting to be quite a pricey habit. After performing a lot of research on machines, and keeping my budget of ~$350 in mind, I decided upon the Cuisinart and couldn't be happier.

Having never made my own espresso I was looking for a simple but quality machine -- the Cuisinart is exactly that, and even comes with an instructional CD for us newbies. After only a couple uses I have this down to an art, and enjoy a delicious latte every day.

I read through the current reviews, and haven't had any of the problems people have described (i.e. leaking water reservoir, "exploding" grounds). The steam wand is a little long, and the warming tray isn't overly effective, but for the cost and the quality of the product these are minor inconveniences at worst. A nice crema is produced, the steaming wand works well, and it's pretty easy to clean.

I highly recommend this machine. It's actually a pragmatic buy... ~$35/month making my own latte vs. ~$100/month purchasing in stores!

4 out of 5 stars Great for the price   July 16, 2008

I love this Espresso Maker. It works great and makes great espresso. The only problem I have had was that some parts were missing when I received it.

2 out of 5 stars Nice froth, but filter basket leaks   March 31, 2008

Nice shot, nice crema, but the filter basket leaked despite all troubleshooting efforts. That was annoying and messy enough for me to give up on this machine.

I have used this espresso machine severals times. I am still learning but I am pleased with the results so far. My lattes aren't hot enough which I found out was due to my steamed milk being cold. Other than that everything works well.
