Product Description
Introducing the next generation of food processors from Cuisinart, a name synonymous with superior quality kitchen appliances. The new motor has an alternate speed for dough mixing, it has the largest work bowl available to consumers, and its sleek rounded curves and one-piece extra large feed tube are easy to clean and handle. A newly designed dough blade, added safety features and a 10 year warranty update the classic food processor.

Amazon.com Review
Cuisinart's PowerPrep Plus gives new meaning to the term "cutting edge." This premier kitchen workhorse is streamlined, so the base (which measures 9 inches wide by 11 inches deep) looks less boxy and the processor more sleek and unobtrusive than ever on the counter. In addition, the rounded shape makes cleaning easier--no more sticky crevices and corners. But it's more than just looks that put the PowerPrep Plus in a league of its own. The 14-cup work bowl has a huge capacity, holding up to 3 pounds of bread or cookie dough or more than 2 pounds of meat, which means less parsing out of batches and more consistent mixing overall.

Also, the wide-mouth feed tube gobbles up whole fruits and vegetables, which means less prep work. The powerful direct-drive induction motor base has touchpad controls with indicator lights and a special alternate speed for bread kneading. This model comes with all the basic accessories, including slicing and shredding discs, a chopping/mixing S-shaped blade, and the fabulous PowerPrep metal dough blade (all are stainless steel), plus a plastic spatula, recipe and instruction books, and a 45-minute how-to video--complete with pizza dough secrets from the Culinary Institute's chef-instructor Bill Briwa. The 2-1/2-foot cord can be wrapped underneath, and all detachable parts are dishwasher-safe. --Erin Brown

Editor's Choice: With its powerful motor and large capacity, Cuisinart's 14-cup food processor is our choice for the best food processor over $300. This food processor, suitable for catering and restaurant use and for the home chef of a large family, features a direct-drive induction motor, 14-cup plastic bowl, and comes with slicing and shredding discs, a chopping/mixing S-shaped blade, and a metal dough blade (all blades are stainless steel). This is a fairly heavy and sturdy machine--the base measures 9 inches wide by 11 inches deep--but its streamlined design is classy enough that it looks nice on the counter. Its wide-mouth feed tube allows for quick loading, and the touchpad controls are not only easy to use, but also easy to clean. The controls also include a special alternate speed for bread kneading.

5 out of 5 stars MY FAVORITE KITCHEN APPLIANCE   July 18, 2010
GHB (Woodbridge, CA)
I bought this food processor to replace my old DLC-7 - mainly because I could use the same blades. I had purchased five different blades one by one over the years to add to my versatility. After I replaced the work bowl on my old DLC-7 Pro for the third time (spring mechanism failed), I decided it was silly to keep buying bowls at $50 a pop when I could just buy a new machine. So I did. I liked this new improved version so much that I bought this second one (the subject of this review) for my daughter and son-in-law as a gift for their 10th wedding anniversary. They really love to cook and I thought it might be a useful addition to their already well stocked kitchen. They had my old DLC-8, which also had the same spring problem with the work bowl and had stopped using it entirely. I could have bought them the Elite model, which sounded clever with three different bowl sizes, but the reviews on this site made me think twice about it because of the fact that you have to use all three bowls at once to make it work, which means you have to wash all bowls each time, and because someone was kind enough to mention that the bowl design on the Elite made it possible for food to get stuck in the outer rim (because it's slanted downwards). That's why we read and write reviews. So one can make an informed decision when considering a purchase of this importance.

Oh, and a note on the use of the old blades. One reviewer wrote that the old blades break under the more powerful motor in this PowerPrep Plus model - that you HAVE to use the blades with the TX code after the blade model number. This has not been my experience. I have been using several of my old blades with no problems. In fact, I just bought a new 9-piece set of (old style) DLC-7 blades to round out my set. I only need four of them (since I already had five in the set) so I'll give the duplicates to my daughter for her new PowerPrep Plus.

What I like the most about this version (which has been discontinued in favor of the new Elite (too bad)) is the bowl design. I like the giant feed tube, I like how the feed tube is positioned in the front rather than the back of the work bowl, I like the metal mechanism that locks the top in place, I like the BIG capacity (14 cups) even though most of my cooking is only for two, and I like the push buttons more than the previous levers. Also, I bought the white one, which has a nice plastic coating that's easy to wipe clean after use. If I was going to display it, I'd probably buy the stainless steel version, but it costs more, although I saw it at Costco recently for less than I paid for the two white ones I just bought.

This processor comes with a very informative DVD that broadened my use of the appliance and inspired me to do more things with it. I had to baby my old DLC-7 Pro because of the bowl problem, so I wasn't using it as often as before. Now, I'm trying all kinds of new things, and I even bought two sets of extra bowls for those really big holiday meals when you're too busy to wash up between chopping and blending all the different components of a large meal. If only I had two dishwashers! These things clean up great in the dishwasher, but do take up a lot of space.

All in all, I'm pleased with my purchase. I'm glad I got the PowerPrep Plus while it was still around, and I'm glad I could make use of (and add to) my prior investment in blades to be even more versatile in my own kitchen. Great machine. Easier to use than older DLC-7s.

3 out of 5 stars Designed by a lawyer, not a cook   July 18, 2010

I bought this food processor after reading all the reviews. I was most interested in the reference to a wide feed tube, which alas, depends on your definition of wide. This tube can handle celery, carrots and parsnips. Anything else needs to be cut and cut and cut again in order to fit the tube. Onions and potatoes are a complete frustration.By the time the pieces are small enough to fit in the tube, they are almost small enough to cook. If I promise not to sue if I cut my finger, will someone, anyone sell a food processor that actually handles real food? My ancient Robot Coupe did just that but I stupidly decided not to invest more money in yet another Lexan replacement bowl for it. The new Cuisinart motor is very good, but its food bowl is already cracked and will need to be replaced and the narrow feed tube restricts my use of this food processor to making mayonnaise, mixing dough, making bread crumbs and pureeing soups. While this is better than nothing, I would dump this in a heartbeat if I could find a reliable processor with a truly wide feed tube.

4 out of 5 stars Powerful Processor   June 10, 2010

I'm not a casual cook and my friends and family claim that, with my proclivity for perfection and gourmet cooking, baking, and entertaining, I should have opened a restaurant years ago. This is the 2nd Cuisinart food processor I've bought in 32 years. I have no complaints, number one just plain wore-out from use. Things change in three decades and this is what I found:

PROS:
* I like having the larger, 14-cup capacity than the smaller one
* Cuisinart still produces a hard-working, efficient processor, same as before
* The chute is larger than on my older model, making it easier to `feed' items into it
* Safety with blades is an important feature. The motor will not engage unless the bowl, blades, and cover are correctly aligned. Time hasn't changed anything here.
* The cover and chute are detachable and very easy to clean/re-assemble

CONS:

* I miss the metal outer casing that my white plastic, newer model has--clean-up is a bit more difficult (Tomatoes actually caused a faint staining)
* Not ALL my old cutting parts are interchangeable with my newer model (Considering the expense, one would think that having previously purchased extra blades from the company that, they would ensure they fit all models)
* The electric cord is not very long and the processor must be very close to the wall (which can be spattered)
* Liquid from the bowl (secured on the base properly) flowed onto the counter, although the bowl was not over-filled

Planned obsolescence is apparently the buzz word today, whether it's air conditioners, cars, or appliances. I hope that is not the case with the plastic bowl, chute, and motor casing. I would be thrilled to let you know in 29 years that, my Cuisinart 14-cup food processor pleases me as much as my first one did.

Meanwhile, comparing the various brands available today, I'd still buy my Cuisinart. For motor strength, ease of use and clean-up, and attachments, no one makes a better home food processor.

4 out of 5 stars Somewhat Disappointed   June 9, 2010
Neil D. (North Pole, AK United States)
Without any doubt, this is a fine operating machine, but the "big mouth" is a disappointment, because for my purposes, it just isn't.

I bought this in 2007 as an upgrade from a smaller Cuisinart, which was an excellent machine, solely for the advertised "big mouth" feature because I wanted to use it principally for slicing vegetables. I want to be able to very thinly and evenly slice English cucumbers and other vegetables. The large opening seemed perfect until I received it and saw very little improvement over the opening in my old one (which I had already given away by then).

Perhaps, if I wanted to slice items lengthwise the opening might be more useful but that is not what I want to do with it. Even fairly slim English cucumbers have to be quartered lengthwise to fit down the feed tube. I could understand if the opening might not accept an onion, but to be touted as having a large opening yet not accept something as slim as an E. cucumber is a bit misleading.

If you want to use this for any other purposes it is probably a superb machine. Just be aware that if the big mouth capability is important to you, that you may be disappointed. I don't want a machine that I could fit a hand into, of course, but I believe Cuisinart could do much better than this.

I have the 11 cup and wanted more capacity.
This machine works well and would buy it again.
