Product Description Cut thick slices of apple for pies, or veggies for stir fries. Slice potatoes thinly for homemade chips, or cabbage for cole slaw. Shred carrots for salad, or julienne, or cube, or dice. With a helpful set of instructions and three cutters, this machine yields professional looking, uniform results, at great speed and without much work on your part.
Amazon.com Review An inexpensive alternative to a professional stainless-steel mandoline, this device makes it possible to quickly, uniformly, and safely slice and julienne vegetables and fruits. It also shreds cabbage and neatly dices potatoes, tomatoes, and onions. For safety, a holder firmly grips food with stainless-steel prongs so fingers are protected from the German surgical-steel blades, and the three inserts accompanying the device lock in position. The inserts act as a guide for slicing against the V-frame's knife that reverses to create slices either 1/4-inch or 1/16-inch thick and two julienne inserts for creating 1/8-inch or 3/8-inch strips. For storage, the V-frame, all three inserts, and the safety holder fit into a caddy that can stand upright on the counter, lie flat in a drawer, or hang on the wall. Made of rugged plastic, the device measures 15 inches long and 6 inches wide when assembled for storage. --Fred Brack

You HAVE to buy this! July 5, 2008 PA Mom (PA) It works GREAT. Plain and simple, this thing will cut through any veggie like butter. The hand guard is very comfortable to grip and keeps your hand very safely away from that sharp cutting blade. I've used it every day since I bought it and even my teenage son is getting into using it. We've made sliced cucumbers, french fries, potato sticks, and potato chips. All were cut REALLY fast and clean up was a snap. Just rinse in water, put it back in the caddy, stand it on the counter and let it drip dry. As long as you use the hand guard, you won't cut yourself. Don't be scared by reviewers who cut their fingers. They clearly didn't use the hand guard. I can see this quickly becoming the most-used tool in our kitchen.
My scariest kitchen gadget July 5, 2008 World Tourist (Rio de Janeiro, Chicago) I took time to think about this review and how many stars to give it. For five stars I think a product should cover all the bases, nothing superfluous, but at the same time nothing that seems standard on other models that is not on the one you have. It should also function perfectly. For starters I am in my kitchen constantly and love cooking and cutting. I figure that everything I buy will pretty much be used so often that I can essentially justify spending however much to get what I want, many have enough $ in stainless steel pots and pans and understand what i mean. This time I really wish I would have spent more. For starters other reviewers have stated this is sharp. Oh yes it is, I stopped paying attention (giving proper respect) for just a moment and got my thumb nail manicured without even feeling it. I was lucky. Problem is that when you have to clean this thing good luck!!! It is like tickling the blade with the edge of a sponge, you really can't clean this thing all to easily or safely. Huge problem because other models come with blades that are completely removable and allow for this. Part two of this problem is that it is white and stains so you do need to scrub it real well at times and i didn't run a beet over it until i knew i was upgrading. Surprisingly the beet didn't stain and so far I have found my nemesis to be carrots. When I was looking at upgrades I stumbled on models that had these great safety pusher handles that allowed you to do vegetables lengthwise and even better had spring loaded pushers that didn't force you to get the "feel" for how to push down on the vegetable yourself. Thats what I mean by 5 stars should have all the bells and whistles or come with a caveat "at this price" Also it only allows for basic cuts at 1/8th and 1/4 inch.
Useful Kitchen Tool June 30, 2008 K. Penley (Denver, CO) I haven't had a chance to use the mandoline much yet, but am very pleased with its performance so far. It did an execellent job of thin-slicing lemons for lemon pie with minimal effort. The item is well constructed and thoughtfully designed.
Makes slicing borderline fun! June 24, 2008 B. Thompson (Athens, GA United States) At first, this looked like it could be a pain in the behind to assemble and use. It really wasn't...and for the wee bit of time it took to get it all squared away (mind you, this was the first time, I'm POSITIVE now that I know how it all works, the next time will be a snap) it made up for with how quickly it perfectly sliced two tomatoes. Love this thing!
Good slicer, greatly reduces prep time. June 23, 2008 G. Nolf (Las Vegas, NV USA) This is one of the more often used tools in my kitchen. Whether getting a few onions ready for the saucepan, or making potatoes into french fries, it gets the job done faster than I could hope to without it. Not a NEEDED component to your kitchen, but a useful one. This particular slicer does a better job than some of its more expensive counterparts. Highly recommended.
