5 out of 5 stars Favorite Coffee maker ever   September 7, 2008

Love this coffee maker. Adjustable heat is very nice. Unlike other coffee makers, I have never found coffee gounds in my coffee after brewing. Have one at work and at home and have never had a problem with either.

3 out of 5 stars Failure to excite   September 7, 2008
KW writer (FL United States)
For $80 I expected a quality coffee-maker. Not so with this model. It has many features, but the most important one should be brewing coffee. First, you can not substitute any paper filter for the sample one that comes with the product. If you do, the coffee overflows and gums up the machine, your counter surface, etc. Second, if the correct filter is not exactly pressed against the cone (meaning absolutely no gaps, even small ones that happen when you close the top) the coffee overflows and gums up the machine, your counter surface, etc. What a nuisance! $20 coffee pots perform better than this! Buyer beware!

1 out of 5 stars Makes weak coffee   September 5, 2008
Renee L. Pennington (Salt Lake City, UT USA)
I wasted a weekend trying to get a decent pot of coffee out of this machine. I finally noticed that the grounds were barely wet after brewing---there were even some dry spots. I think the machine was probably defective as it seemed to drip most of the water down the side of the coffee filter cone rather than on the grounds.

I returned it to the store for a refund rather than a replacement because even a correctly functioning machine cannot produce a full pot of strong coffee. According to the directions, the filter cone holds 15 tablespoons of ground coffee, which is just big enough to make about 6 or 7 cups of coffee the way we like it at our house.

I like my Chemex coffee but wanted an automatic machine with a timer so that I could sleep in a little later and still have a little leisure time to swill coffee at home before leaving for work. I have a Braun that makes great coffee (but it has no timer) so I know it is possible to get what I like from an automatic. This Cuisinart was a real disappointment.

3 out of 5 stars good, but with a major flaw   September 1, 2008
Mr. Anonymous
This is a good and apparently a well-made appliance. It is flawed, however, by its internal water level guage. This makes it difficult set the level for six cups or less without having to rely on the markings on the carafe. An external guage would have been better.

5 out of 5 stars Great, Great, Great!   August 31, 2008

I have had hundreds, maybe thousands of cups of coffee in my life. This machine makes some of the best coffee I have tasted. My coffee maker died after 8 years. I did much research (consumer reports) and reading of reviews on Amazon. I decided on the Cuisinart DCC-1200. It is a great deal at half price and free super saver shipping. I have been using mine for 2 weeks now and continue to be impressed. My friend came over last week and the first words out of his mouth was "wow, cool looking coffee maker" So, you get great coffee, its a great deal, and it looks great. What else are you looking for?
