 Great motor, but low quality work bowl assembly August 26, 2008

I purchased the Custom 11 many (8-12?) years ago when it was made in Japan; it is now made in China. I have used my food processor at least 4 times a week during this time. The pusher/sleeve assembly broke after about 4 years of use and the handle of the work bowl also cracked. I spent about $80 replacing the pusher/sleeve assembly, the work bowl and the work bowl cover. Just over a year later, the replacement pusher/sleeve assembly broke! The handle on the replacement bowl is now cracked as well. I have resorted to using the sharp end of a can opener to bypass the safety lock, while simultaneously and firmly holding the lid in place, in order for the food processor to function. I realize this is definitely not the safest way to chop food and I am not recommending this practice. However, I was determined not to give Cuisinart any more money for replacement parts. Great motor, just be prepared to spend about $80-$90 replacing the work bowl assembly.

The old one lasted 20 years. Can't vouch for the durability of the new cuisinart, but it is just as easy to use and gets the same good results.

I have a much smaller cuisinart that was cumbersome and could be difficult to use. This bigger one has much higher power and is much easier to use. I've used most of the different blades that came with the machine and they were easy to set up and also easy to clean

I had a Cuisinartfor years, this model. Thought I loved it. Recently I dropped the work bowl and cracked it. I phoned Cuisinart, sure I could get a replacement. It turned out they've made minor changes so that you can't just replace a work bowl. If your machine predates the changes, you have to buy all the plastic parts, at a cost near that of a new food processor. I don't appreciate being forced to dispose of a good machine, and I won't buy my next one from Cuisinart. Who knows when they'll make the one you buy today obsolete--will it be a year from now, or next week?
