1 out of 5 stars kitchen aid chopper worthless   February 26, 2008

I bought this chopper because i had stomach surgery and had to chop food before eating it. I bought it online before the surgery so I didnt use it for about 2 weeks. After the surgery I waited 2 weeks until i was allowed to eat solid type food. The product worked great. next time I used it worked great. next time product failed. I figured out what the problem was. It has to many safety features and all are made of plastic. They are fragile and broke off thus making the product not workable. Cheaply made plastic that is over engineered for safety. I will return this one and not replace it.

I bought this appliance about a year ago. It's been disappointing. It's really nice to have a small chopper around for tasks that don't quite require the big food processor. But this particular model isn't quite right.

Pros:
-Compact, taking up little counter or cabinet space.
-Simple to use.
-Feeder opening on the lid is useful for slowly adding liquid.
-Parts are dishwasher safe.

Cons:
-Orientation of the blades doesn't create evenly chopped pieces of vegetables. Some pieces are too big and some are nearly pureed.
-Blades are really high from the bottom of the container making it useless for smaller quantities of food.
-Blades only spin one direction, leafy things like spinach or herbs, require the lid to be opened over and over to readjust the position of the leaves.
-It seems like the food splatters excessively inside the container, so there is a constant need to stop and scrape down the sides of the container.

I used to have a little Cuisinart chopper, which seemed so similar, but just worked better. The blades rotate in both directions, the blades are slightly longer, making the food splatter around less, requiring less scraping, and the chop was more even. The Cuisinart lasted for years, but finally... just... died. Now that I have this inferior chopper, I am finding myself pulling out much less often than the old one.
