Mini-Prep Processor- White

Amazon.com Review
The Cuisinart Mini-Prep food processor stands 8 inches tall and just over 4 inches wide, but don't let the size fool you. The base houses a motor so powerful that you need to stabilize it with one hand when using the high setting to whip up a strawberry-banana smoothie for one in less than a minute. The clear plastic prep bowl locks into place with a simple twist, while the blades can be set sharp side up for chopping onions or grating Parmesan cheese, or turned blunt side up for making walnut pesto or whipping up chocolate frosting. The set includes a spatula and a cleaning brush to remove coffee grounds.

For best results, cut ingredients into small, even pieces--about 1/2-inch square or so works well. In general, use the sharp-edge approach for low speed and the blunt side of the blades for high speed. If you need to run the motor for longer than one minute, pause and begin again. The bowl, cover, and blade assembly can all be run through the dishwasher, but watch your fingers when dissembling the machine, as the blades are extremely sharp. --Irene Svete

1 out of 5 stars Unreliable little thing.   July 11, 2008

At first I was thrilled with this little chopper. The first one I purchased I had for two weeks. A seed got caught in the rim and cracked the lid. I really liked the size and convince so I bought another. That one lasted for one week. The blade scraped the bottom of the bowl and I was eating plastic with my yogurt! I am going to try a Krups.

4 out of 5 stars replacement mini processor   May 24, 2008

I replaced my original mini-prep with this item after the plastic housing on the steel knife split. The first one lasted about ten years, and I used it quite often, tho it was not abused. Love the handiness of this item, it stores easily with a small footprint, parts go in the dishwasher for quick cleanup, just the right size for smaller jobs.

4 out of 5 stars Inexpensive, and saves a lot of time   December 19, 2007

There's not too much of a reason to buy one of these if you already have a larger food processor, but for kitchens with limited space, or times when you can't justify spending several times more just to chop some nuts, this small Cuisinart works perfectly. I have used mine to make chopped nuts and breadcrumbs. Both finish within seconds. It cleans up quickly and easily, and has a safety locking feature that will not allow the food processor to turn on if the lid is not locked in place (there is a tab at the back of the lid that slides in to a slot on the base that has a sensor in it).

I do wish they had also shipped a grater attachment. However, since the small lid does not have the same chimney-type hole as the larger model, food cannot be inserted while the blade is spinning. The bowl is also very small. If you ever plan on making something large like a pie crust you may be better off with the full size model. Overall, I have found this to be an excellent kitchen tool for small jobs, and it does not take up too much counter space.

4 out of 5 stars not perfect but still good   August 9, 2007

I bought this item specifically for grinding spices and herbs for indian cooking. It does a fairly decent job with the spices although you need to have at least 1/4 cup for it to work well. As to the herbs perhaps I'm doing something wrong but it did not do as well. The herbs that were above the blade stayed put and it took a lot of scraping the bowl to get them chopped up. An addition of something solid (perhaps an onion or a some butter) would probably take care of the problem but just the leaves on their own give this processor a hard time.

4 out of 5 stars Mini-Prep means you have to prepare the food before you use it.   January 9, 2007

Perhaps that is par for the course for these types of food processors, but I was a bit surprised to find that many things have to be chopped into 1/2 inch size pieces before you put it into this Mini-Prep Food Processor. I can dice an onion into uniform 3/8 inch pieces and clean the cutting board and knife in less time than it takes for me to dice them into 1/2 inch pieces and then put it in the processor and make a shredded pile of onions, and then clean out the processor or put it in the dish washer. I'm sure there are things that this does that I can't do or faster than I can do it, like grinding spices or coffee, but I already had a coffee grinder.

In summary, I'd still give it a 4 because it is made well, and is versitle, and finely minces things faster than I can with a knife, without losing fingertips:)
