5 out of 5 stars Where has this item been all my life?   May 15, 2008

What a deal! What a color! What an appliance! I've noticed immersion blenders mentioned in recipes, but they are not often featured in catalogs or cooking stores, so I've spent most of my cooking life without one. I had no idea what I was missing. If you don't have one, buy this. It works like a charm (turned my stinging nettle soup into cream of nettle soup in well under a minute) with no mess, no spills, no blender canister and lid to wash. The red color is very cheery, and the blender comes with a cool plastic measuring cup in which you can rest the blender to keep your counter clean. I could not be happier. The price is right and Amazon's shipping system is the best.

Thei little gadget solves a lot of problmes in the kitchen: juicer, mixer, smoothie-maker. Not too expensive, and even stylish in red.

2 out of 5 stars Works well until it falls apart   May 10, 2008

At first this product seems fine. I used it to puree home cooked food into baby food for my son since he has a hard time eating solids. This was the best way to puree his food since it was quick and easy to clean. Since it splits in half, you can throw it in the dish washer and never worry. The problem is that it will not last very long. We have gone through 3 of these type of hand blenders (including this particular model) and most of the other manufacturers that use this split design will have the flaw of falling apart. The problem that occurs is that the gears that the two halves meet are made out of plastic. Any type of resistance caused by foods will eventually cause the plastic to wear and eventually fall apart. Each of my hand blenders lasted ~ 8 months. I did some research and found that Waring carried industrial hand blenders using a one piece design so I purchased one. So far I haven't had any problems. The only inconvenience is cleaning the unit since I can't put the entire unit in the dishwasher.
