| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Review For a century and a half, since a woman in New York invented the hand-crank freezer, making ice cream has been an American family value. Mom blended the ice cream mixture; Dad filled the maker's wooden tub with ice and rock salt to achieve the below-freezing temperature needed to produce smooth confections; kids clamored to turn the crank; and everyone happily consumed big bowls of ice cream as a reward. This family-bonding activity remains as vibrant today as it was through a century-and-a-half of "progress." With various ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sherbet recipes included, this old-fashioned White Mountain ice cream maker maintains the tradition. Only the use of modern stainless steel for the freezer can and dasher and the electric motor distinguish this rugged maker from the one earlier generations enjoyed. And years from now it will still be used, knitting together a family's history. --Fred Brack

white mountain freezer February 10, 2010 L. Brown (nebraska) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bought this freezer as a gift. Have been told it makes great ice cream in about 35-40 minutes.
Great item and service February 10, 2010 R. Glick (Port Royal, PA) This is a great ice cream freezer. Just like I remember in the old days!
White Mountain Ice Freezer is awesome!! February 6, 2010 Connie L. Lutz (Pennsylvania, USA) We looked for an ice cream maker and tried 2 or 3 different brands. But the white Mountain freezer makes the smoothest, creamiest ice cream we've EVER eaten. The recipes were easy to follow, and their suggestions on how to make it were simple to follow. Honestly folks, if you're looking for silky smooth, creamy homemade ice cream White Mountain is the product to purchase.
The real scoop from an ice cream making veteran December 21, 2009 "Doug" (Cadillac, MI) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We have made home made ice cream for over 40 years. As a kid, we had a White Mountain which lasted a long, long time. Most of my adult life, we have used cheaper makers just because I couldn't justify spending the extra money. Last year we bought a White Mountain because we had a little extra. I will say this, the White Mountain system definitely makes richer, creamier ice cream and left overs which keeps much better than cheaper makers. The dasher seems to mix the ingredients so that they don't seperate afterward like cheaper units. The new White Mountain makers however are not the quality of the old ones from my childhood days. (Hard to believe I know!) One year after we bought ours, the springs which hold the brushes in the motor corroded and snapped because they were made from poor quality materials. Also, when I took the motor apart to examine it, imagine my disppointment when I saw the "Made in China" sticker. Explains the short life span I guess. So much for the idea that paying a little more gets better quality. Makes great ice cream though! Buy the hand crank model - more work I know but the electric motor model is built pretty cheap.
Delicious ice cream, low quality parts December 18, 2009 Kristen M. Miller (Houston, TX) After five uses, one of the parts in the motor broke and now it won't churn. It is less than a month old and has been used to make 5 single quart batches of ice cream. I can't believe that the manufacturer would allow such cheap parts to be used in a $200 "commercial grade" motor. When it did work, the ice cream was amazing. I'm just glad it's still in warranty.
