Product Description
This dessert maker is designed to turn every meal into a treat. Delight family and friends with a fresh batch of sorbet between courses, or incredibly rich homemade ice cream as a finish to the meal. The frozen yogurt, ice cream, and sorbet maker makes 2 quarts of your favorite frozen desserts or drinks in as little as 25 minutes. It's easy to use: an integrated motor, double-insulated freezer bowl, and automatic mixing paddle do all the work. Pre-freeze the bowl, add your ingredients, and turn the unit on. A transparent lid lets you monitor the freezing process, and a large spout lets you add fruit, cookies, or other mix-ins without interrupting the machine. Results are consistently smooth and the removable freezer bowl and mixing paddle make cleanup easy. Recipes included.
Brushed stainless steel.
3 year limited warranty.

3 out of 5 stars Good, BUT   July 22, 2008

I waited anxiously for this machine and got it on time. The machine is not noisy, except as a machine. It does makes great tasting ice cream. BUT. Both batches I made haven't evn been slushy material at the end of 30 minutes. The bottom of the containere is frozen, BUT only along the rim of the bottom of the container, the rest is not capable of holding shape. It would have to be poured into a glass and drinken. I pour it into a 2 quart plastic container and put it into the freezer to set. Tastes delicious, but only after 2 or 3 hours in the freezer. I wish it would come out as ice cream! I have not made anything other than ice cream, but the shorbet looks interesting. Making the simple suger isn't too difficult and one can make big batches for future use.

5 out of 5 stars NOT YOUR GRANDMA'S ICE CREAM MAKER   May 29, 2008

THIS CUISINART ICE CREAM MAKER IS AWESOME. I WAS NOT SURE HOW LONG IT WOULD TAKE TO MAKE ICE CREAM BUT IN NO TIME AT ALL IT CAME TOGETHER. NOW YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO SEE HOW LONG YOU CAN CRANK IT, OR MAKE SURE YOU DON'T GET THE ROCK SALT DOWN IN IT, OR BE ABLE TO DARE YOUR BROTHER ON WHO CAN HOLD THEIR HAND IN THE COLD WATER THE LONGEST - IT'S THE SIGN OF THE TIMES. WHAT MEMORIES !!!! HAPPY EATING !!!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ICE CREAM MAKER.

This is a fun product! You do need to freeze the bowl before use, so as long as you realize that, you should be good. And my first batch was the Vanilla Bean. It was/is to die for. Had I read the directions THOROUGHLY, I would have seen that this particular recipe requires the custard (which you make from scratch) is to be chilled thoroughly prior to mixing it in the machine. This recipe takes a little time but boy is it worth it!! I am sad that the other guy left a bad review for the machine when his beef was with the company's customer service before even ORDERING it. I like the first guy's idea of buying an extra freezer bowl (if you have the storage space). They include recipes for ritas, gelattos, slushies, floats, sorbet, etc. LOTS of fun!

This will be my third ice cream maker; the first was a Kitchen Aid with a dasher (paddle) that didn't fit my Hobart mixer N-50 and Kitchen Aid mixers are similar in appearance and it was returned; second was Krups Model GVS142 that had a defective freezer bowl and was also returned, and my third, which I just ordered, is the Cuisinart which was also rated by Cook's Illustrated as their third choice.

The Cuisinart has two models under $80.00, the IC-20 which made its market debut in 1998 and the IC-30, which is a recent new-comer (2006) according to Cuisinart's customer service.

Both machines have been rated highly by Amazon customers, and before making my decision, I wanted to know the size of the freezer bowl for each model so I could make my decision based on my freezer space. Two customer service reps gave me conflicting information stating the freezer bowl for the 1-1/2 quart Model 20 was 15" tall with a diameter of 10" and the second rep said it was 6.5" tall with an 8" diameter; and Model 30 which is a 2 quart size had dimensions 13" tall and 10.8" diameter and the second response was 6" tall and 8" in diameter. In both responses, the 1-1/2 quart size was larger than the 2 quart size. I asked both customer service reps if they could transfer me to their technical or maintenance departments so I could resolve the information about the sizes, but they refused, and I definitely didn't want the hassle of calling their manufacturing plant somewhere in China.

Since I couldn't verify the freezer bowl sizes from Cuisinart, I went ahead and ordered the Model 30 and hope things turn out. For my review of Krup's ice cream maker, look for my rating under author "Wok King." After I receive the Cuisinart and give it some test runs, I will follow up with an updated review and rating.

I received this item as a birthday gift and had to try it out immediately.
It works great! It is a bit noisy but nothing that can't be overlooked.
It makes enough ice-cream for a small crowd. Can't wait to try some of the other receipes. If you love ice-cream you must get this item.
