Piece of junk, indeed September 9, 2008 martha stewart wannabe (Winter Park, FL United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As another user discovered, this is not worth the box it came in . . . we used it twice and had to stop and start it several times to get it to keep turning. The third time the ice cream process didn't complete before the filled drum refused to turn. Then we threw it away!
Just Plain Great September 7, 2008 J. O. Brown (Arkansas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
One of the best for the buck, it just makes great ice cream. Period. Also comes with great recipes, makes plenty. Isn't nearly as loud as I thought it would be and rust hasn't been a problem since it's cleaned well after each use.
Good machine for the price June 10, 2008 David Beierl (Providence, Rhode Island, USA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Works as advertised, makes fine ice cream. Instructions are brief and clear. Well-made for the price. About the size of a small wastebasket, fits easily into one side of a double sink. I think the size is an excellent compromise between the countertop units and the big churns. The can is thin deep-drawn aluminum with no seams at the bottom to trap salt (like a soda can, but not nearly that thin). People have complained of it getting pinholes from corrosion during storage, but I think this must be from forgetting to rinse all salt from the bucket, or not drying can or bucket thoroughly. I would recommend storing the can upside down in the bucket so that any possible moisture/corrosion will be at the rim where it will do little harm, but the can will still be protected from dents. The motor is silent but the gear train is noisy, because it's all spur gears. All gears but the final one are die-cast zinc, and the final looks like filled nylon or acetal. Gears and shafts are greased with white grease. I believe they should hold up nicely in home use. Motor is fan-cooled and has a self-resetting overheat protector. All in all a good, lightweight but honest product that should last well if you get all the salt and moisture off after use.
