Product Description Side-cutting technology creates smooth lids that will not fall into can Knife sharpener Extra tall Cord lock/storage
Amazon.com Review It seems an affront to simply call this product a can opener. Sure, it does that, but it takes can opening to a new level by making safety a priority. It carefully opens cans from the side and not the top, so that you won't get your fingers messy trying to retrieve the lid. But best of all, a special feature allows it to smooth the edge of the can as it cuts, leaving behind a flat--and safe--surface. It also includes a built-in a knife sharpener for convenience. And no hassling with extra electrical cord lying on your counter top: a retractable feature tucks the extra cord away neatly into the base. --Linda Dahlstrom

safe and versatile can opener November 9, 2007 R. Crouch (Milford, CT USA) Hard to get all worked up about a can opener but this is great - cuts on the side of the can so the lids are not sharp (safe) and can actually be placed back on the can (versatile) You'll never know what you're missing until you get one of these.
Good idea---but August 21, 2007 Ex-Teach (Colorado) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I really like the way it releases the top of the can from the bottom of the can. Problem is that it does not seem to work on all cans. Some cans I need to turn upside down to get the can opener to work. When it does work, it is a thing of beauty, and I love it. When it does not work, I get out the side release HAND can opener and get the job done. Would I buy it again--probably not.
Doesn't work July 31, 2007 Ellary Kahan (Buffalo Grove, IL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I tried to open several cans with this thing, each time following the directions very carefully. Each time it failed. So don't waste either your money of counter space on it. Just get a manual opener like the Oxo. Takes no effort at all to use one.
New Purchase Hamilton Beach 76600 Smooth Edge Can Opener May 12, 2007 Peggy L. Davenport (USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This has been a very good purchase. At times it does have a problem with cans that have a large ringed lip at the top of the can edge, however if the instruction is followed just turn the can upside-down and cut from the bottom of the can. This is a much, much safer product than other types of openers! There is absolutly no sharp can edges or sharp edges on the can lid after cutting. Congradulations Hamilton Beach! But why is it so hard to find on the market? I searched all of the major retailers before finally finding this product at AMAZON. Thank you,

I have this great can opener. I liked it so much I bought it for 2 of my neighbors and my 2 girls. They all love it as well. No lid to be careful of disposing. I am just getting another one for a 2nd home.
