Product Description Whatever the task, chances are this set has the knife you need. All the basics of chopping, peeling, and slicing are covered. A sharpening steel and storage block will keep your knives sharp, efficient, safe to use, and safely stored. This set offers a nice compromise in terms of price and quality.
Amazon.com Review This seven-piece knife set from J.A. Henckels benefits from the company's 260 years in the cutlery business. Each knife is made from stamped, high-carbon, no-stain steel blades that have been ice-hardened, which results in a very long-lasting cutting edge. The set includes a 3-inch paring knife for cutting and paring fruits and vegetables, a 6-inch utility knife for slicing, an 8-inch carving knife for carving turkey or roast beef, an 8-inch chef's knife designed to rock on the cutting board for better slicing of fruits and vegetables, and an 8-inch bread knife. The set also includes a sharpening steel with its own slot in the solid hardwood knife block. The block has an additional three slots for adding knives as the need arises. Each knife has a full-length tang (meaning the metal blade continues all the way through to the end of the handle) that provides better balance and a stronger knife, and the Novadur plastic handles are unbreakable and impact- and acid-resistant and won't fade over time. These knives are dishwasher-safe, but be careful that the blade doesn't touch other objects; hand washing is recommended to keep steel blades scratch free. --Doree Armstrong What's in the Box 3-inch paring; 6-inch utility; 8-inch carving; 8-inch chef's; and 8-inch bread knives; sharpening steel; hardwood block with three additional slots

Henckels' German Knives Are Great But... July 5, 2008 Nom de Plume I've owned Henckels high-carbon stainless knives for over twenty years. Forged in Germany, they are well made and a pleasure to use. But, you should know the company also produces knives in China and Spain. Be sure of what you are buying. I bought mine one-by-one because of the expense. I consider them the best on the market. But their knives from China are not equal in quality: Look for the words Henckels "International" - The stick-figure "twins" are absent, instead there is one stick figure holding an upright staff. I urge you to hold out for the knives from Germany - you'll be glad you did.
Don't get these knifes -- get the REAL Henckels June 26, 2004 J. Barnhart (Santa Clara, CA United States) 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
I bought these knives as a gift for my parents. I thought they were the same as the Henckles knives I use in my own kitchen. Nope. Not even close. These are flimsy cheap knives with the Henckles name but not the quality. They bend easily when you bear down at the slightest angle! I am so disappointed I'm going to throw these away, eat the $150 loss, and buy some REAL knives for my parents. I'm embarrassed to have given them this set.
Lousy warranty December 13, 2003 TOPJOB7 (Colorado) 17 out of 21 found this review helpful
I thought Henckels stood behind their products. Boy was I wrong. We were given the chef's knife from this set as a gift. After a few uses the blade chipped! Henckel's said to send it in for inspection. They sent me a letter saying the damage was due to the food being too hard to cut and refused to replace or repair it!Instead, they offered to SELL me a new one at more than I could get it for at Amazon! So don't make the mistake I made of thinking they stand behind their products!
My handle broke also December 7, 2003 Brandon K. Holmes (Iowa City, Iowa USA) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I have few Wusthoff, Henkels and those expensive ones they sell door to door (forget the name). I would NOT get these knives, spends a few bucks more and get the forged ones, of any brand over these. These feel lightweight and cheap to me and don't hold the edge as well as the Wusthoff (forged). Like Joyce Sackett, I only hand wash them (no dishwasher period). Somehow the handle cracked and is about ready to fall apart. I'm not saying Henkels are not good knives, I'm saying THESE Henkels are barely a step above cheapo knives. If you want Henkels, get a better, more expensive set. Which would you rather have, a so-so set for $160 or a great set for $180??
Forever satisfied September 28, 2003 C.M (California) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
You can't get a better knife than Henckel . They keep their sharp edge longer than any other knife that I have used, plus if sharpens quickly . Our first knives were given to use by my husband's parents and we are still using them to this day...which is 33 years later.; Quite a knife don't you think?
