1 out of 5 stars Very short life span....Five dollars per waffle !!   July 20, 2008
R. Keith (Crystal River, Fl)
While it worked, it really did make a great waffle. We received this waffle maker as a gift about 14 months ago, but used it infrequently. I figure we made a total of 20 waffles with it before it stopped heating and of course it happened when we had a house full of guests. I did not realize so many people had the same problem we did. This is a poorly designed product and should have lasted a whole lot longer. I was considering purchasing another one until I read all of the bad reviews about the heating element going out! My recommendation, save your money and purchase another brand.

1 out of 5 stars An all-around bad deal   July 17, 2008

First of all the beep tone when ready didn't work. Then the thing did a poor job of cooking when following the directions. Third, I couldn't find any way to return the damn thing either inside the shipping box or on line; so I just kept it. I've finally figured out that if I just use my stop watch and let things cook about two minutes it will produce a reasonable end product. All in all it's a losing proposition and I sure wouldn't buy it on line again because once you have it YOU'RE STUCK WITH IT!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent   July 17, 2008

We purchased this same waffle maker while on vacation at a specialty kitchen store. We loved it so much we purchased another one through Amazon at a much lower price for our son and his family.

We also found that it is not necessary to purchase expensive specialty waffle mix. Any of the pancake mixes at your local supermarket will do. Just follow the directions for making waffles found on the back of box and enjoy!

We use pam spray oil each time we use it but remember to follow the directions that come with it about not putting any oil on it the first time it is turned on. Unlike cast iron skillets, which require you to put oil on them to season them first, this does not require oil the first time to season it.

Note: When pouring batter into waffle maker pour in a circle from the outside in, rather than the inside out. It seems to work out better that way.

1 out of 5 stars Great for the brief time it worked   July 16, 2008
Carol Jobe (Exton, PA United States)
We had this maker for 2 months and used it maybe every other weekend. The waffles were delicious. Last weekend, in the middle of making waffles, it just stopped working. It wouldn't heat up anymore. Thankfully, I still had my receipt and the store where I purchased it took it back. Not sure what to buy now. Really loved those Belgian waffles!

4 out of 5 stars love to make waffles on this   July 11, 2008

I'll try to keep this simple:

I like that it beeps at me to tell me that my waffles are supposed to be done.
I like that when the excess batter drips, it goes into the tray under the hot plates.
It even tells me when it's done warming up.

The suggested heating setting for a waffle is a tiny hit too high; The first waffle always comes out a little raw... just heat it up a little more than the beep says.
Do NOT try to clean the sides until the batter dries or you will push batter into the impossible crease between where the lip of the hot plate and the outside silver (the round silver part) meet. I still have to figure out how to clean that.
It's a little smoky when you first heat up the cooking spray.

After the first waffle, the waffles come out very nice, almost slightly crispy but not crunchy at all.
The grooves in the waffles themselves are nice and deep. And I even freeze my waffles for later, because I can just barely finish half of my second waffle.

I have not had any hinge or anything fail on me yet. I use it several times a month. Not every day though. That's a lot of waffles!

Oh and it gets very very hot, so be careful and keep out of reach of children. Or me. Because I burned myself pretty bad. It was completely my own fault.
